Make Speech craft useful.

In fallout 3 you could lie to people and get alot of thing out of them. In oblivion, speech craft was the most worthless skill ever.
So what If you could lie to someone or lie about an stolen item. so what are your Ideas

Speechcraft CANNOT be done the way it was in Fallout 3 because all skills are trained by by usage in TES since Daggerfall and training usage of Speechcraft won't work if you only get to use it every 3-4 important dialog with some NPC during a quest.

I have an idea. You should get XP every time you talk to someone, but only the "gold" topics. Then, if you lie or something, you should get even more XP. Kinda like with Alchemy in Oblivion. You'd get 10 times as much XP by creating a potion than by eating an ingredient.

Yes, let's add a new skill that basicaly always levels no matter what you do like the good old walking and jumping skills. Skyrim for sure needs more of that :/

I just love when people shoot down ideas without coming up with their own. What do you suggest, then? That they should get rid of it completely? (Assuming they haven't already. For all we know it could be one of them three sacked skills).

I have no idea so far. I hope Bethesda has come up with a good one; or they better ditch the skill completely.

I think that what Mordy whas saying (in a quite crude way) is that this will be worse than what intended to fix.

Speechcraft should stay. They would have to make it more interesting and rewarding, though.

I didn't find it worthless, personally. "Primitive" might be a better word. It's a sort of gaming feature that was in its infancy during Oblivion, but there were some rewards for using it.

That being said, sure, it would be cool if we could tell lies and stuff like that. Imagine the roleplay! :hubbahubba:

I'm having a hard time seeing how it'd be a bad thing. It's the same as in real life (though less complex). You go talk to someone, you get information, and you get better at getting information. (If that makes any sense). As you get better at getting information, you get better at lying, because you now have an idea of what people want to hear.

1. Combine speechcraft and mercantile.
2. Create a speechcraft minigame that improves disposition, potentially giving additional conversation topics.
3. Have haggling check both Speechcraft and disposition when you attempt the trade.
4. Improve skill based upon usage of said skill.
5. Include "Gated" conversation topics based upon overall speechcraft skill, which may only be available for further discussion if you have high enough disposition.

You can also include conversation topics based on a wide variety of other skills. With enough Alchemy, you might be able to talk to a woodsman NPC about a nearby copse of trees where certain flowers grow and get directions to it.

There are seriously dozens of things that Speechcraft should do. Getting arrested? Talk your way out of it. Getting attacked by bandits? Talk your way out of it. Convince people to help you, tell lies convincingly. You know how in Oblivion and Morrowind you could lie about completing a quest if it was morally questionable? How come they ALWAYS believed you? That should depend on your Speechcraft skill.

I also wondered why I couldn't lie much more frequently. They can't account for every situation, but sometimes I felt extremely railroaded into doing things my character just wouldn't do.

If you look at the UI destruction image, the skill on the left says -aft. Any ideas or is speechcraft confirmed?
