Will There Be Fall Damage?

Post » Tue Nov 30, 2010 7:05 pm

If you fall from a high place to the ground, will you get hurt? I really hope so, as this would encourage players to find alternate routes down and use their imagination to get to the enemy that's all the way down there.

Yeah you'll take damage unless you slide out of the fall

Even then, I hope from very high heights you will still get hurt even if you do slide.

I'd imagine slides only negate falls of a few feet. A fall from a higher story should deal some damage unless you slow yourself down with, say, a wall slide.

Given the small size of the maps, I'd guess it's rare to find places high enough where falling can hurt you even if you slide out of the fall.

I don't think there is anything like a wall slide.

But Lights should be able to wall hop just before hitting the ground and thus negating all fall-damage effects.

Lol, I feel like doing a parkour slide wouldn't protect someone from falling 2 stories... or would it...?

(jumps out of his apartment window)
(Runs back up)

No. It doesn't help as much as you would think. I need to go to the hospital now... :yucky:

Real Parkour answer: Unless you're on a slope, a slide isn't going to help much in reducing speed. Sliding down a vertical surface will either shred whatever you're trying to grip the wall with, or fail to generate enough friction to be worth the trouble. You're better getting more distance from the wall and rolling when you land.

They were going to do rolls but opted for the slide instead to avoid a canned animation

And because rolls are disorienting in first-person (example: Mirror's Edge is the only game that gives my girlfriend motion sickness)

And because they wanted you to be able to shoot at all times, and rolls would negatively impact on that part of the game concept.

Which is why I said "REAL parkour answer" and not "in-game answer"

alright then, thought you were questioning why they were using slides instead of a more realistic roll - my bad :spotted owl:

I'll test this as well.

(Weakly leaps out of window)
(Hobbles back in)

That DID hurt less. That or the adrenaline and endorphins are still running and when it wears off I'll feel it.

But seriously, if they had implemented a controlled roll so you could roll and decide where you were moving then it would be a little better. It could be a penalty for deciding to drop two stories to the concrete below.

Yes sliding replacing rolling for parkour and unreal as it is. Hope no one hurt themselves trying it out.

I don't think there is fall damage because, In most videos showing
off the parkour elements there is usually a bigger fall and from what I see
there is no actual warning indicator (There is always a "warning" indicator before it shows an actual damage indicator)
