water making texture see-thru

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 3:26 am

oi all

I need some advice. I created a 3 way pipe (lpipe -- the ones used in the project purity quest) a little while ago and it works fine...except when it's underwater or is touched by another object's built-in shadow (like the one around the pipe exit object), then it becomes see-thru. My search didn't come up with anything. Anyone has any idea what might cause this?

Not really sure what you mean, but two 'transparent' object will not work together. The inside one always becomes invisible at certain angles. The same issue can happen to 'hair' where you suddenly become bald.

Oi, thanks for the reply

this is what I mean:

You can see the other 3-way pipe, going down at 45 degrees to the right, throught the one in the foreground. I check about that transparency issue you mentioned. All the texture settings seemed alright to me. I don't remember changing any of them in blender. I just basically copied half the pipe object, made a hole in the 1-way and connected the copied half to it.

Did you make the pipe 'Reflective' and 'Refractive' to the water?

Nope, I haven't touched those settings in the GECK.

EDIT: Well, I figured out the problem a NiAlphaProperty Flag. Using Nifskope I changed it to 4844 (as the original pipe is) from 4845. Dunno how it got changed tho...
