The Difficulty Slider

I don't mind it, I just leave it at default.

Don't even start it. :homestar:

I'm not. Just pointing out the fact that people should not get angry over being given options. When that's what Elder Scrolls is supposed to be all about....

The very concept of fast travel as an option offends some people on these forums. Tread lightly :P

I personally didn't like the difficulty slider in Oblivion as well. Although, I liked how Bethesda made Fallout 3 have a difficulty setting (very easy, easy, normal, hard, very hard), I personally want Bethesda to use a similar difficulty setting they used in Fallout 3 because i found that the difficulty slider in Oblivion to have 2 difficulties: easy and hard (left and right side of the slider). The middle of the slider is the determining point of whether its easy or hard and there is no in between difficulty setting of these 2 settings to balance the game according to your character or the way you play the game. This can be my only opinion, but it is what I believe.

You could actually probably sell your console, and buy a PC that can handle it. Especially Morrowind. Not getting into bashing here, just a word of advice. Also, check eBay often. I once got a computer that could run Morrowind, and Oblivion with Oldblivion for £62. Pretty awesome.

Nice idea, but I have a shared console, so unfortunately not an option :( But rest assured, the second I get the cash I'll be heading over to the tech forums to get some purchasing advice :celebration:
I was wondering, if they didn't have scaled enemies, possibly so as to make areas/caves etc unreachable at certain levels, would lowering the difficulty bar make that redundant, as you could beat them anyway?

I hardly acknowledge its existence.

I think the poll is lacking.

I have no problem with the fact that the slider exists.
In Oblivion, I didn't use it much, because it was useless; turn it down, and the game went from easy to embarrasingly easy. Turn it up, and the game devolved into a drawn-out, mind-numbing slugfest. Even at maximum difficulty, it didn't make the game hard, only frustrating.

Give me a more granular difficulty-slider. And more of 'em. That will be good.

I've never used it, but I rest easy in the fact that it exists.

The difficulty slider is fine. It's good that it is there for when you need to use it, though I've ever only used it once I think.

I don't really care. I didn't realize it existed until a few playthroughs. I don't see why it should be removed, as it lets casual gamers and hardcoe gamers adjust the game to their preferred difficulty. Turn it all the way down and you can kill Mehrunes Dagon with a fire ball spell, turn it all the way up and it takes an hour of hacking to kill a ogre.

In Oblivion, I always set the slider to the hardest setting at level 1. Then I move it one space to the easy side every 2-3 levels.

That way I am able to mask the terrible enemy scaling to a small extent.

For the love of god, if you don't use it then don't complain about it if you have no issues with it. I use it because I feel that I need a challenge.

In every game I get I play on the hardest difficulty available and that becomes my learning curve. I enjoy the difficulty slider a great deal as the game would be far to easy for me if I was not included.

TES is neither competitive nor multiplayer. Enjoy it in the way you prefer. Spend less time worrying about others also enjoying it.

I just think the game should be challenging; a good game engages the mind while preventing the player from becoming totally frustrated.

I don't use it because I feel like I'm cheating myself out of the gaming experience that Bethesda wanted me to have if set it to the easy side. At the start of the game, I nudged it a smidge to the right because I figured I was familiar enough with the elder scrolls world to afford it, then i left it the way it was for the rest of the game.
