{WIP}New Terminal Interfaces

Post » Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:52 am

Ok, heres the skinny.

Ive been dabbling with the interface files, seeing what I could change and not break everything. I successfully was able to change the interface models, but the problem is, the designs are meh, and they use assets that I can not release. So, I want to redesign them, and hopefully get them out to you all.

Another problem is my creative energies are dwindling, so I was hoping for some design inspiration from everyone.

Example Interface: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b200/staplehead78/Fallout32010-04-3014-00-47-50.png http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b200/staplehead78/Fallout32010-05-0201-29-12-24.png

So lets hear, or even see, your ideas. Sketches would be nice XD

Some designs I thought of:
- Make it look like the screens are Metro posters and the buttons are graffiti
- Mothership Zeta Themed

Haha, I love the text in the second picture.

Perhaps something more fitting to fallout would be if the screens were much more damaged. Like say all dirty and grimy, maybe even have a crack going down them.

Whoops, I forgot that one said that XD (Hope the moderators dont see =P)

Since the terminals use a screen overlay texture, a crack is very doable.

That's what I'd like to see. Actually, I'd like to see a terminal "overhaul" with a good model replacement, and a good interface. I just don't know how exactly what you could use as a design for it - something that maintains the Fallout appeal while visually refreshing the whole system.

Thats what I was planning. Based on the interface, making replacement models isn't that difficult. But like you, I have no idea what I should do.

You know, this might not be the most helpful suggestion, but the fake 1950's era computer interface always seemed incomplete to me because there are no punch cards! Early computers put EVERYTHING on d@mn paper punch cards! Frankly, every room w/ a computer should be knee-deep in the stupid things!

[Okay - - not helpful, I know -- but this has been bothering me for the last two years! ]

My rant aside, the models look great - really clean. They seem smoother, more almost cyber-punk than the retro original models.

I say you mod the terminals to run Windoze 99. It's already in the Fallout universe, so it can't be complained about on regards to Lore, and it would undoubtedly make using terminals much more intuitive.

Edit: At least I think it was. I remember seeing it somewhere on The Vault regarding a terminal in one of the isometric games but I can't for the life of me find it. At any rate a Fallout lore friendly Windows parody would be awesome.
