Request for help with a mod related crash

I'm experiencing a crash to desktop on exiting the level up screen (i.e after choosing the perk and hitting done). I'm pretty sure this is mod related, as stripping the game down to just the fallout esm and the DLCs prevents the crash from happening. However, I'd really rather not have to play without mods. I've tried fixing the problem myself, and I'm fairly confidant the mods I have installed are installed correctly. Its quite possible Ive made a mistake in the load order though, or I'm using a mod thats incompatible with another mod by mistake. So, here is my load order, and I'd appreciate if anyone could take a look at it and see if there are any obvious problems

I should also note that this crash is happening at the level 6 to 7 transition, I had no problems at earlier levels, and I'm using fose v1.2 beta 2.

My guess would be a conflict between Ultimate Perk Pack and FWE. I think UPP vanilla perk changes aren't compatible with FWE. In your load order FWE loads later than than UPP, so it should overwrite those changes, but try disabling UPP plugins and see if it still crashes.

I've tried that, and it didnt help. FWE is only listed as incompatible with the UPP original perks, as you said - though I'm not running that one. I have managed to level up, running the game without FOSE seems to allow me to. I'd really like to know why that is though <_<

That would propably mean some script that requires FOSE to function causes the crash. No clue what it could be, though.

Well, Ill go through the mods that use FOSE and attempt to find the one causing it. For now though, my game is playable. Thanks for the help.

Try disabling Powered Power Armor until after you level up.

Aha, that fixed it. Turns out I'd forgotten to install the "crash fixer" for PPA. Thanks :)

Did installing the crash fixer stop the problem, or did you remove PPA entirely? So far there are 3 other people having the same level-up crashes, but I'm pretty sure they're already using the crash fixer (which is meant to stop another kind of crash). I'll be posting more about this on the PPA thread, but apparently this sort of crash can happen when the GECK randomly decides to sort of corrupt a piece of armor - the game will suddenly start crashing on level up if that piece of armor has any object script attached to it.

I've been getting this issue as well Imp and removing PPA entirely fixes the issue but just installing the crash fixer doesn't. However, I was running without the crash fixer for the majority of this savegame without levelup crashes. It only started around levels 11-13, depending on the playthrough. Once that point hits I just level up normally but use 'closeallmenus' and add a perk via the console. Here's my mod list if it helps.

Hmm, I thought at first the crash fixer fixed it, but removing it doesnt bring a return of the crashes. I think I mustve removed the mod to solve my earlier problem. I've noticed a *lot* less CTDs on saves / in general using the crash fixer however.

The crash fixer is meant to prevent crashes related to ref walks, which, as far as I know, are unrelated to the level-up crashes. I've reworked the way the ref walks are done, and it's been very stable for me so far, but I'll be posting the next PPA release as a beta, just in case. If what I have now doesn't work better for everybody I'll have to handle it with leveled lists. But again, those crashes are most likely unrelated to the level-up crashes.

That makes 3, possibly 4 people that have this level up crash with and without the crash fixer, so it sounds like it is probably the corrupted object w/ script problem that Justinother mentioned. Hopefully someone can upload a save from right before their bugged level-up, so I can track down which object is causing the problem.

I tracked down the glitched out upgrade, and replaced it. There's a hotfix up on Nexus with the fix. There aren't any other changes from r1.3.4, though, so you'll still need the Crash Fixer.
