Custom Music Crash

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:04 pm

Whenever I use custom music in Oblivion, my game instantly locks up. Anyone ever have a problem like this? Is there a solution? I'm running on Windows 7 64 Bit, and the Steam version on Oblivion. Thanks in advance.

I have plenty of new tracks with the same setup, with no problems. Are the files you added in .mp3 format?

You might have a codec issue, but you have to make sure the music is the right format as well. I think the format has to be .mp3. (Check your Music folder to find out.) If that is not the issue, try resetting your codecs and use the http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm pack.

Yeah, the music I'm trying to add (Morrowind soundtrack ^_^ ) is all in .mp3 format. I'll try doing that format and let you guys know if it helps. Thanks for the fast replies!

I saved this a long time ago, it is the bitrates/samplerates for Fallout 3, but it applies to Oblivion as well:

Game Music & Pipboy Radio Station Music: 44.1 kHz, 192kbs Stereo or mono MP3 (with no tags)Radios placed in game (that play Radio Station music): 44.1 kHz mono WAV AND 192kbs mono mp3.Dialogue (Radio stations, radios & characters): 44.1 kHz, 236kbs (nominal and max) bitrate OGG audioSound effects: 32 kHz WAV mono or stereo

Usually, I convert all the custom music I'm adding to match those, which I've found helps reduce stuttering/skipping/glitches in audio.

Yep, problem fixed, it apparently was a format/sampling rate issue. I was originally using .mp3s from a soundtrack for Morrowind I had DLed somewhere. But now I just copied over the mp3s from the actual Morrowind data files (I don't know why I just didn't do this in the first place lol) and it works fine with no lock up. Thanks for the help guys! ^_^
