[RELz} HMS "Vanguard"

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 3:14 pm

This topic is dedicated to my HMS Vanguard mod I made sometime ago and it's available http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7403 on the Nexus
Entire mod is dedicated to all submariners around the world, It's really damn hard work underwater.
The general idea of the mod is to answer the question "what happened 23'rd Oct 2077, and what were
people who surwived think about this period?"

This mod is a final relase, however, I have couple of ideas towards further story and someday will probably
be back to and do it.
I have also made a short film to introduce the mod, its on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ho_L9a1J2M.

I started this to give you locations of a “full score” of bobblefakes hidden onboard of HMS Vanguard,
they are needed to unlock captains safe and find last log. Full score as you know means 20, there are 20
of them hidden in those places:

If you want to find them on your own, don’t read this spoiler!
Spoiler

Perception - Behind first officer’s terminal
Luck - Under commander seat near the round map
Charisma - Captains desk
Agility - Hull, underwater (enter through bow hatch next to torpedo room door)
Big Guns - Between consoles, near right torpedo launch tubes in… torpedo room.
Barter - behind desk, lower deck
Endurance - Inside one of the freezers, Lower Deck (loads of boxes lying on the floor)
Melee - on the shelf, kitchen, lower deck
Medicine - Behind terminal, sick bay, mid deck
Lockpick - Locked in a VeryHard locker common room opposite to sick bay, mid deck
Unarmed - common room on the shelf, mid deck
Strength - Inside toilet, mid deck
Small Guns - next to the terminal, armoury mid deck
Energy weapons - close to the first aid kit, under console near door to mid deck, engine room
Repair - Stuck between pipe joints, behind door to electric plant, engine room, (watch out for the pipe!)
Explosives - Left from the locked door on the beam, very back of the ICBM compartment
Science - in small storage, right and up from broken terminal on the shelf, the bow
Intelligence - Behind mainframe computer, lab room, the bow
Sneak - under the chair, behind small mainframe navigation section of the bridge, mid ship
Speech - on top of wireless officer’s equipment, next to coffee kettle, close to captain’s cabin, mid ship

As you probably seen, there’s a twisted logic in placement of those bobblefakes, endurance is where you must endure
extreme conditions, agility, where you must hold your breath, unarmed is where you will most likely fight your mates,
energy weapons is where energy is, melee where you find lots of knives, medicine… guns… some kind of logic indeed,
just don’t look for intelligence in the kitchen and everything will be fine.

Interior of the ship is made from stock game elements (as always in my mods) but they are scaled to 0.75 of
original size to give you a real feeling of being onboard of cramped submarine.
Cheers and enjoy!

Bravo sherlock! here we have miss bleeding obvious.
I happend to know what HMS means, and if you would like to know what is such a thing doing on American soil, get the mod and play it, and please tell me, what is so shocking with british sub in american water? American subs are literally everywhere around the world, what gives them right to do so and forbids others from doing the same?
Play the mod, find out, then once you know, post, not before, please.

By the way, I also happened to be from London UK, so I am HMS myself...(Her Majesty's Subject :))

No offence m8, but I already saw and heard numbers of comments and questions Like" what is British sub doing in DC??" or "I should be USS not HMS you have mistaken the prefixes" or "My god they Chinese and the Brits were working together to nuke us and they have won...." it's tiring to read the same thing all the time, really nothing constructive, just pointless gibberish. Sorry to jump at you, and really take the mod and find out:)

I have no problem with a British submarine coming up the Potomac for a visit. There are German ships calling a Gitmo all of the time.

I seem to have a problem with one of the hull sections. I go through the "hatch to hull" and the hull wall does not exist.

Have not really gotten into the mod, yet, but are the leaks repairable and bilge pumps operable?

No, they're not repairable, and how can one wall does not exist, when entire hull section is really one reference? there are 4 hatches to 4 parts of the hull, which one did you use?

small edit:
but several pumps and valves can kill you, so be careful what you're messing with, it's really old bucket you know. hehe

another small Edit
ok. I found the bug, you have used the very last door on lower deck, at the end of the corridor, the problem was door marker sticking below floor of the hull thus spawning you below the entire ship;)
all needs to be done in G.E.C.K is to rise the door marker a little, I correct it in next update, but you can easily do it yourself, cell name is "PSWhull" (all cells are PSW... btw)

edit number three:
I just uploaded corrected file, but if you don't plan to go to the hull don't bother, there's nothing interesting there, and I changed nothing else really.

The only way to find things is to look everywhere. I plan on exploring the entire vessel prior to doing anything (other than clicking on the obvious).

Acky isn't the easiest to follow.. even for me.. which of course is creepy

needless to say I'm amazed at what you've put out in short order..
First the falcon, now this.. wow.
Ok, ok. this was already out there. My bad for not knowing. still, it certainly makes you to be the busy bee, huh? :)

If ever you feel bored or uninspired and wanna do some stuff, let me know :)
My thread is just over there, it's about a really, big boat ;)

I would just like to share that although wearing Power Armor whilst in the confines of the HMS Vanguard is discouraged, I have been able to wear Abesh's http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3365 throughout every area of the vessel with no negative interactions, bugs, glitches, etc. I'm not sure if the Reflex Armor is different from the standard bulky Power Armor in some way, or perhaps it is sized or scaled differently, but it works quite well inside the submarine.

Also if you get "stuck" in any area of the game, a simple console command can aid you--simply press the ~ (tilde) key to bring up the console, then type "tcl" and press Enter. This command removes clipping and allows a player to go through walls/ceilings/floors, etc., easily alleviating any annoying stickiness.

Post-Script: I just read some of the logs on the First Officer's Personal Terminal and am amused to find Star Trek crew references--namely Leonard McCoy, Nyota Uhura, Wesley Crusher, Patrick Steward (an obvious reference to Patrick Stewart who played Cpt. Picard) listed amongst the "Officers" in the crew aboard the HMS Vanguard. There are others such as the Royal Marines section replete with Resident Evil name references--Chris Redfield, Albert Wesker, Leon S. Kennedy, etc. And I also noticed a one David Gillmoure in the Crew section of the logs, perhaps a reference to Pink Floyd's lead guitarist David Gilmore. Thanks again for creating such a creative and original mod and incorporating inventive elements and details---its a player home and mini quest-line all in one.

Just now the download link (from Nexus) isn't working. I know that's not the modder's responsibility. Maybe it will work later.

[Edit] It's not the mod link, it seems to be Nexus (or my connection). I tried something else from three servers and no joy.
