Is blood & mud a bad, good or excellent mod ?

Hi all,

On my next installation of oblivion, I will play as a mage in FCOM. Is blood & mud a bad, good or excellent mod and why do you feel that way about it ? (I'm speaking about the English version, of course)

I think it's excellent. It's big, varied and interesting. Even the English version has wonderful voice acting; I still keep it active so I can hear the characters when I go to Bravil. Highly recommended.

I love B&M Bravil, even without doing much of the quest. It is a great mod, for sure.

It is one of the best quest mods ever made for Oblivion, from one of the most likable fellows of the Oblivion modding community. ;)

Completely awesome mod. Blood and Mud makes Bravil into a city that has more character, humor, and gritty realism than any in the game--the minute I stepped inside, I started smiling. And then I called my daughter to come see it too--It's just that good.

Yes.

definitely, it's spiffing.

and it helps that one of the characters is a subtle (or not so) han solo

for me it is still one of the best mods ever made for Oblivion....only thing...the english version has the video ( amazing) for the first quest missing....I personally use the video from the german version...

as well I find the 1. quest hard to play together with UL Bravil Barrowfileds ( always forget to mention this on the UL thread)

however for me an absolutely must have mod :-)

cheers

Aparrently, it's my loss :P, but I was never really able to get into it. Seeing so much praise for it might convince me to reinstall it, however. If I may ask, what sort of character is the quest suited to? I understand it makes Bravil a much darker, dirtier place, but I have no clue what the quest is even about (like I said, never able to get into it ). My current character is a really upstanding type of paladin... she doesn't like to get her hands dirty (unless it's with the blood of Akatosh's enemies).

My loss too I guess. I had it installed for the longest time and never figured out how to initiate the quest. Only ever managed to get the blank video to play and couldn't hear the voices that went with it.

It does make for a rather nice visual upgrade to Bravil, but it's also murder on frame rates, and moreso with Bravil Barrowfields alongside.

I've played through most of it with a paladin and it did not seem out of place. Most of the dirt is on others, but yeah it can rub off on ya.

Not like Tears of the Fiend which is a quest mod that is about as opposed to paladin role play as you can get.

The characters of B&M are great and I will more of Tamriel were that immersive. They have depth (or at least seemingly so) and do not throw up their life story to you just because you walked in the room. It does not branch so much like Integration does, but it also does not spoon feed you. Clues could be visual, literal, metaphorical.

One of my favorite - and not even because the rewards are that amazing - it is the playing and then those great street crazies of Bravil.

I agree with the others who said it was confusing to play. It was not clear how to begin quests and so on. The most notable thing about it is that introduces prosttutes into the city. I've never seen this in any other Oblivion mod.

Yeah but it is not like it is done in a smutty way like you would see with animated prostitution in fallout 3. In fact many of the characters are not what they seem and attempting to tangle with the prosttutes (for lack of a better word) can lead to consequences that you may not expect.

To me this mod is the only one that I've played were the story line approaches what I consider a great story. There is mystery there ... but then I'm actually not a fan of fantasy fiction at all. I generally despise Tolkien and the whole reducing all metaphors to literal interpretations. Flattening all myth to just the literal reality.

Suddenly trolling is not a behavior it is a savage critter. Turning invisible is interpreted as actually bending light and not becoming transparent to what you could not see about yourself before. Spells to destroy your enemies are physical fireballs and not a means of enflaming compassion in yourself.

The magick is gone from the myth in most fantasy - this mod has some of the mystery still.

I'm not critisizing it for introducing hokers. In fact, it introduces some gritty realism. My main criticism is that I didn't know how to play the damn thing. If you can give me some hints about starting the quests and who to approach I may give it another try.

Umm - the prosttutes. Try the two that live together. You It doesn't even infer that you had six with them - just take a nap in a bed with them.

Talk to the weapon seller Mah Syd too.

i think its very good! it makes bravil much more dingy and dirty... just how i imagined it to be when i read 'a guide to bravil' :)

i tried the main quest but i didnt finish it! but its worth it for the city changes.

Yes keep in mind it is an EPIC mod and it is not designed for low level characters, you have to explore and watch things unfold... its REALLY fun once you get into it.

starting it....

as psymon said...you have to talk to the two prosttutes living together ....activate the bed in their house....this will start the 1. main quest (of 3) with a dream sequence...note ! the enlish version comes with NO Video for the dream ( the german version does)....then talk to Ma Syd Jun ( have to buy a special book)....
now comes the difficult part, especially when playing it with UL Barrowfield...out of the city you have to follow the yellow flowers "Dragons Tongue Plants" ...dragon path...( Riddle !!!) to a fort ruin...

cheers
