Spell Breakers

Marcus Cato - Skingrad Streets

Marcus tilted his head slightly at his new companion's words, a bit perplexed as to why he didn't think of that, before sighing dramatically. "Right then. While I suppose we could traipse all the way up to the castle and secure such a map, that is a rather long walk, and I don't really want to add onto my workload today, so let's just push our luck at the guard house, shall we?"

Marcus stepped out into the street, quickly making his way down and out of sight of the Guild, his strides long and fast. He walked in the manner of someone who was utterly confident in themselves, borderlining on arrogance. The constant look of irritation on his face didn't particularly help matters. Of course in his mind, his irritation was justified. He was an elite mage, off running errands and gathering information like some common apprentice? What was their purpose here if not to do what others could not? Marcus simply didn't see the point when something like this could be properly delegated to someone less important. Like the mercenaries. He smirked at the thought of a bunch of heavily armed and armored toughs running around relaying messages.

While walking, he decided to question the man accompanying him, to get a better idea of what kind of skills he would possess. Better to adapt your tactics to others than ask them to adapt to yours, he had learned. Especially when dealing with those not fully specializing in magic, as the man's bow seemed to indicate.

"Mr. Athon? May I ask what precisely your specialization is? Just in case we run into trouble, as I would rather not end up mismatching spells in combat."

As he finished the question, he arrived in front of the guard room, where two such men were lazing about, no doubt on break. "You there! We're on official Mage's Guild business and require a thorough map of the city along with a list of the occupants. Move along then, hurry up," he ordered, ignoring the fierce scowls that had been adopted on the guard's faces as the slowly moved to comply. Marcus himself waited patiently outside for them to return, and turned to Jerrod briefly, expecting a reply.

Daosya's eyes jumped from Sorcalin to Valus considering the task and orders given to her by Ignatius. It was important to know your enemy, always. "I'd like to see how you handle this portion of the investigation." She was never really all that formal but for the sake of the Guild Hall's master being there she decided it was best hoping that they would take lead. Out of the three she was easily the least imposing and at the same time most noticeable so she would work as a good distraction aside from her arcane abilities. Tilted her head and clasping her hands behind her back she signaled for the others to lead the way out of the Guild Hall for their task in her girlish manner.

Ignatius however did not wait long before making his grand exit of rushing foot steps meant to demean anyone who was in his way until he was outside, Ashu following close behind. As he continued to walk his wolfish eyes peered over his shoulders, his hands in pocket and his shoulders slightly slouched. After giving out a yawn he turned to Ashu in a dry voice..."I need a [censored] drink. I thought that couldn't have ended faster..."

Sorcalin, Skingrad

Sorcalin rolled his eyes rather noticeably, than turned away as his Breton partner said nothing to his plan and only gave him a simple grunt to show he was willing to go along with the plan. He looked to the other member of their group, Daoysa, hoping to get a better response and some ideas to add to the plan they had going. He rubbed his eyes in mock weariness as all she gave was a tilt of her head to indicate they should get moving, as all the other groups had pretty much left.

Oh joy. I`ve been paired with a couple of mutes, and none of them very friendly mutes either. He looked disdainfully between the two for a second, and shrugged, deciding to take matters into his own hands.

"Well, c'mon then. The other groups will be done before we even get out of this hall!"

And with that, he clasped his purple cloak around his thin neck and set off down the stairs at a brisk pace, passing a startled looking guild member before pushing open the door to allow them entry to the streets of Skingrad. He figured they would be following him and so he made his way through the twisting streets of Skingrad at a pace made possible by his long, elvish legs. He didn't think twice about the fact that his partners might not be able to keep up and he didn't look back anyways as he was trying to remember how to get to the main gates.

However, luck struck them suddenly and he needn't remember where the gates were for the moment, because up ahead of the trio a man had just walked by, dressed in uniform but without the customary helmet and was being followed by another guard at a respectful distance.

He turned around to face his two partners. "Think he's a Captain of some sort?" he asked, though his tone more stated that he was sure the man was a Captain of the guard. He figured it would be "team-like" to ask their opinion on the matter. "If that's the case, I think you," he said, pointing at Hart, "should be the one to address him. You're all of the same stock anyways, you fighters."

Skingrad

Ashu followed silently, almost skipping behind the leader out of the Mages Guild. He felt a bit odd, not wearing his helmet in public, but it did feel like he should get used to the sensation if he was to work with these mages and investigating crimes. Like this one, in particular, and how a man was driven by dreams to suicide. It was a frightful thing, something he once lived in fear of. He had seen those affected by "soul sickness", and aside from the Corprus monsters, nothing unsettled him more. It was a frightening concept, to be trapped in a trance, a puppet to someone else. Even more unsettling, however, were that some of them never recovered; even cut off from Dagoth Ur, they became incomplete vessels, unable to cope with being freed, just muttering about darkness and silence. But was this man in a trance when he jumped off the bridge, or had he been driven to madness?

As they stepped out of the Mages Guild the leader, Ignatius, turned back towards him and spoke.

"I need a [censored] drink. I thought that couldn't have ended faster..."

Ashu hadn't expected this; it would appear that his leader needed a break. I would have never guessed it. He took a breath and replied.

"Lead on, I'm thirsty myself." Ashu knew little of the drinks that Cyrodiil had, aside from the fine imported beverages. It would be nice to sample the local drinks, and help break the ice with his leader; being a recent foreigner, this was all new and unfamiliar to him.

Varnis Kinghart; Skingrad

Hart eyed the elf, observing his arrogant mannerisms with a patient stare. He was obviously not used to keeping such company; no doubt he spent most of his time with fellow staff-and-cloak mages. Hart permitted himself a small smile as the elf left. He began to follow, before remembering the third member of their party, the woman named Daosya. He paused for a moment, his eyes darting between the door and the attractive woman standing before him. After a long moment the Breton finally nodded to the mage, offering a weak smile, then promptly followed the Altmer through the door.

As the elf led him through the city, the crowds giving the group a wide berth, Hart's mind wandered back to the woman. He hadn't really spoken to a woman in years. Between his time in the Legion and the priests, he hadn't been with anyone since... Hart's eyes grew somber, staring emptily at the Altmer's back, trying not to think of Maeva.

Suddenly, the elf stopped, and it was all Hart could do to keep himself from barrelling into the lanky mage. The Altmer turned just as Hart was regaining his composure. "Think he's a Captain of some sort?" the elf asked rhetorically.

"If that's the case, I think you," he said, pointing at Hart, "should be the one to address him. You're all of the same stock anyways, you fighters."

Hart's eyebrow rose, looking between the elf and the legionnaire, before he finally nodded. Without a word to the Altmer, or a glance back at the woman, Hart walked off, making a beeline for the helmet-less guard. He was an Imperial, with his black hair cropped short, seeming to be in his mid-thirties; definitely the captain sort.

The Breton stopped in front of the captain, earning a bewildered look from the Imperial. "Yes?" he asked, the other legionnaire coming up beside him.

Hart cleared his throat, buying himself a moment to think of what to say, then looked back up at the man. "I am Varnis Kinghart," Hart paused for a moment, distracted by the captain's impatient expression, but quickly continued, falling back into his Legion training, "Centurion of the Imperial Spell-Swords and member of the special Spell Breaker division. We are here on an investigation into the possible murder of Marcel, and request a list of any suspicious persons entering or leaving the city within the past..." Hart paused once more, thinking of the timespan for the murder, "Two weeks." He finished with a nod, praying that the man was who Sorcalin thought he was.

Elendur Varo; Outside Skingrad

Elendur rode up to the large gate, the air was filled with the many scents of Skingrad County, the animals, the trees. Elendur really did enjoy coming back to the city, it is so unique, and so grand.

The gates opened up before him. Elendur knew where he was going, the Skingrad Mages Guild, his favorite Guild hall, he had led many expeditions from there. The battlemage walked through the dirt streets of the beautiful city. The tall stone building casting shadows around him. Elendur walked up the steps to the Guild hall, and opened up the heavy, wooden door and stepped into the warm lobby. He knew who he was looking for, a Legion veteran by the name of Ignatus, who appeared to be missing from the Guild hall.

Elendur needed information, so he walked to the nearest Guildmember, "Excuse me? Ma'am? I'm looking for a Ignatus, do you know where I could find him?"

It was Adrienne, the leader of the Skingrad Guild, "Another one of the mysterious Spell Breakers? How dare you interrupt me?" She turned to face him, and here scolding expression changed into a smile. "Why Elendur! How good to see you! I should have expected that you would join the Mages Guild's new rogue mage hunting club, you have always had a knack for it."

"Thank you, but do you th-"

"Now but why would you leave the Imperial City? You had so much going for you!"

"Long story, Adrienne, now do you think you could tell me where Ignatus is?"

"Yes! Yes of course! I think he is down by the inn, yes, I'm sure he is there."

"Thank you, now good day."

Elendur turned and strutted out the door, in the direction of the nearest pub, he knew that Adrienne was watching him leave, suspicious of him, she knew something was wrong with him.

Elendur soon caught up with the famed Legion soldier, and ran up beside him, "Sir, Elendur Varo, reporting to the Spell Breakers, I know I'm late, it's a bit of a long story, care to debrief me on what's going on? I have seen some queer folk about, and I'm assuming they are a part of my new family, so to speak."

((A little weak, but I just wanted to get in here, thanks for letting me join!))

OOC: Short post. Don't see much to work with.

Marcus Cato - Skingrad Streets

"Mr. Athon? May I ask what precisely your specialization is? Just in case we run into trouble, as I would rather not end up mismatching spells in combat."

Jerrod Athon

Jerrod paused for a moment, wondering why he hadn't already stated what his specialty was. It was one of the most important things for a spell breaker. It echoed in his mind on every task, crossed his thoughts on every mission. The probably should have told this to Ignatius earlier, for partner purposes. Maybe he already knew though, and the guild had sent him a list with everyone and their abilities. He looked around at the guards scuttling everywhere for the map, and cleared his throat.

"The thing I'm best at is alchemy. I use that with my bow as a weapon system. I can use Alteration, Mysticism, and Illusion to a pretty solid manner. Everything else I've never cared much for. I've always thought conjuration wouldn't ever help me, and restoration and destruction can be substituted to some degree with alchemy. That's about it though. What about yourself?"

You know guys I think this is dragging on too slowly. I'm not going to waste anyone's time anymore with this. I'm just going to close it and go with the main idea I had concerning Hammerfell which should be up either this weekend or the next. Thanks for the participation and I really did enjoy what was written. Very nice to read. But it's been almost a month and we're still on only page 2.

My thoughts were the same.

Anyway, good luck with Hammerfell's write up.

 If that's how it goes, that's how it goes. I'm sad to see another RP go down, but I agree that this was moving a little too slowly, even for my tastes. I'll look forward to the next one then ;)
