Landscape editing

gulp

If you're just looking to get back to where you were before you edited it, you can revert your changes either through FO3edit or GECK, whichever seems easiest to you.

GECK can do it by, when you first start GECK, you select your .esp and then click that "Details..." button at the bottom. You can toggle the individual things which the .esp changes to be ignored when the GECK loads, and then you can re-save your .esp and effectively omit the changes. FO3edit's all very tree-like and deletions can be pretty easy with it.

Keep backups of your .esp around, in case you end up with a really messed-up .esp and need to get this one back the way it is now.

It's possible that someone else will come along who knows more about this, and have a better solution, but yeah, that is how you revert if you want to do it.

Seeing the straight line that divides the textured ground from the untextured makes me wonder if there's a cell boundary there. If so, it's possible that you may have inadvertently tried to apply a new texture to that piece of ground and exceeded the limit on the number of textures allowed in a cell. I don't remember the exact rules, but IIRC each cell is divided into 4 parts and each part can have a maximum of 4 different textures.

It could be LOD data as well. One of the reasons I avoid editing the land too much.
I have seen ghost land as well as ghost trees because the LOD data messes up in my game. I have even seen ghost LOD of the megaton gate, as I walk through it.

Press 'B' to see the cell borders.
In landscape mode, with the Render window active, press the 'I' key to see the textures used in the cell your focused on.

Each cell has 4 quads of textures. You can delete ones that are not used much, or replace them with a different texture. Never under any circumstance 'delete' the first texture in the list. Only replace it if you need to.
