Thieves - Alternate way to get into houses

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:32 am

So i was i thinking...

In Oblivion all you did was opening a door, sneak around and steal stuff. I feel that should be changed...to maybe breaking the door, run up to the owner, hit him unconscious then steal the stuff?

OR!

Open the window carefully, sneak inside and steal whatever you wish.

OR.....(My favourite!) Jump into the chimney.

1: thieves don't want attention so kicking bashing door's is a no.
You wouldn't get to steal much like that ,too much noise, alerts them, guards ,whoever.
2: Yes.
3: NO.......will you leave me a mince pie and a glass of milk too. ( evil santa...takes present's, rather than give them )

2:building will probably load when you enter,so no going through windows ( maybe possible ,but doubt it )

I disagree, why does it matter how they enter the cell? a window? a door? it doesn't matter. Also, different thieves work in different ways haha.

Someone stepped out of the wrong side of his bed this morning.

1. Maybe not thieves but it would be nice for ruffians :D
2. We can have multiple entrances to a house just loading in different places :D so going through a window seems possible.
3. Chimney may not be possible cos of how slim they are but maybe some very small character could fit through ?

Hmmm... they could make windows behave like doors -- that would be cool.

And I believe knock outs are a must at this point -- you should be able to knock people unconscious, not only main quest people -- maybe with fists or blunt weapons.

But we're not Santa Claus. :P

Making the windows alternate entrances is totally possible, but it'll still load the interior, you'll just be standing a different spot when it does.

Might be a bit harder to open though, since they uhm.. you know, don't have handles on the outside :P
But I bet a thief could find a way around that.

Cell seperation = this stealthy and fluid way for thieves to enter houses in alternate ways is gone forever and ever and ever.
It's the bitterness of truth.

Because portals between cells are so hard to place.

I hope thieves get some more sand box love in Skyrim. I don't want to have to follow the Thieves Guild questline to use secret castle passages and infiltrate through windows - those options should be available everywhere!

Anyway, yes, I want windows to be entrances.

What would you have instead? Even the fabled Morrowind and Daggerfall used separate cells for houses. It doesn't have to be a big loading screen, but if it's not separate the processor trying to do too much at once and there are too many possibilities for the game to glitch because of a huge number of interactions between objects.

We have loading screens for every other entrance to buildings. Why not windows?

1. I agree with you, a true thief wouldn't do this, nor would they shatter a car window, rob a liquor store at gunpoint, or do any of that crap that happens nowadays. Thieves used to have honor.
2. Yes indeed.
3. Judging by chimney size in previous games it wouldn't be plausible anyways lol. Besides, if I lived in Skyrim I would hire someone to keep the fire lit at all times so it was always roasty toasty inside. And by hire someone I mean enslave an Argonian.
