Ocato

Occato is mentionned as the imperial battlemage in Morrowind, where archmage Trebonius let a telvani spy in on behalf of a poorly faked recommendation from Occato.

As far altmers in hte Imperial adminsitration go, there's a very strong point for an altmer interested in wielding real power to move in : compared to social ascencion in the summerset Isles, where you might have to wait a centuy or three for a high-ranker to die or retire, promotion in the mostly human Imperial administration is lightning-fast.

[fixed a confusion - the archamge in Morrowind's guid isn't Traven but Trebonius]

Its in the pge 3 edition. They took that direction, because it makes a lot of sense. Who usually fights the revolutions? Who is usually too hot headed to sit down, shut up and listen? Horny "youths".

Altmer youth are skinny, soft and spotty. They try to make up for it by dressing like Redguards. When horny, their only real option is Orc porm (or, for the deeply sad, Khajiit).

Traven was not Arch-mage at the time of Morrowind. He had only been recently appointed as of Oblivion. Ocato was still Arch-mage during the events of Morrowind, as well as being the Imperial Battlemage. They are two separate offices that the same person presumably often holds simultaneously. And it makes sense when you think about it, that the leader of the organized Imperial guild of Mages is the Imperial Battlemage sometimes. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if at some point Jagar Tharn had been Arch-mage.

Now that we're on the mage side of things, what would and Altmer like Ocato who is deep in Imperial affairs think of the Telvanni? Are they even worth all that much political consideration outside Morrowind?

Ask yourself how a Telvanni Master would rate vs a Mages Guild Archmage ...

Before that huge mess expelling the Necromancers from the Mages Guild almost all the senior members were Necromancers and the Telvanni practice whatever kind of magic they want.

One notable Telvanni - Master Fyr (he is only 4,000yrs old) is frequently consulted by the Elder council, etc. You may remember vivsiting his coprusarium in Morrowind?

It is possible that the Telvanni are generally more advanced in their top ranks than either the Altmer or Bretons, despite the natural talents that those races enjoy. but the Telvanni do not generally 'go to war' as a House. Maybe because no one wants to attack or provoke the older ones - I wonder why?

Ah, Telvanni aren't so tough, I wiped their councilors out for the Mages Guild in Morrowind. They're also too backstabbing and self-absorbed (a few are insane) to get themselves organized into a cohesive force. Also they're most respected members such as Fyr are all semi-retired" from the House. Mind you, the fact that they are descended from Altmer and have access to Dwemer artifacts and lore is always a good reason for any self-respecting Arch-Mage or Battle-Mage to keep an eye on them.

In response to that sort of a diatribe, a Telvanni would no doubt say "shut your bleedin' cake hole you n'wah." Good thing you killed them all.

I mixed up the names - I was refering to Trebonius, who was 'promoted' as Morrowind's archmage.

OMG, just realized that I only killed off those Councilors based in Vvardenfell. There's probably a few elsewhere in Morrowind. Maybe a really smart, secretive, back stabbing one actually organized the killings of his/her Vvardenfell rivals to further his/her own goals. That would be so like them.

Not even that. Merely the Archmage for the Vvardenfell district. Yes, this is Bethesda lore, not something made up by Tamriel Rebuilt: when you finish the "Disappearance of the Dwarves" quest for him, he says he'll have something to brag about to the Archmage of Almalexia.
