slight auto-aim on console versions...

Post » Sat Jan 15, 2011 12:49 am

Really? Because I know alot of games that don't have auto aim that have a FPS aspect to them. If it wasn't for the fact I have a 5600 dpi mouse, I would be able to aim faster and more accurately than my mouse.

Theres auto aim, its not huge to the point to where you notice your redicule following baddies but its there. Its usually for that small bit so your not over aiming or underaiming over and over again. MW2 and Halo 3 both had more auto aim then I would like to admit(as well as bullet magnitism "shudder") Its part of a simple reality in consoles while in PCs its not needed because of the superiority of the mouse. It may feel as fluent, but thats simply because they have a system they dont feel the need to tell you about doing a small percentage of the aiming for you. Even if there is an "auto aim on/off" feature if you hit off it just reduces it slightly. Look at RDR hardcoe mode, that aiming has very little auto aim to it so its easier to aim through the auto aim and over shoot your target.

Implement it for console players. Why not? Just add an option to disable it.

It would be nice to see a light magnetism when aiming at enemies, especially in ranged combat. Something like halo would be nice - it was really frustrating trying to accurately fire magic projectiles and arrows at moving targets in morrowing and obliv, and it made the non-melee combat quite awkward and haphazard.
Also this way it might stop the massive cluster[censored]s that inevitably happen when more than two npcs come into the fray.

why auto aim just don't be bad at aiming its not hard, practice with fps games i guess lol

Where is the "auto-aim as an option" choice?

I'd have to say no, I wouldn't want that. Although I'm not fast aiming on console, I think that would take a lot of skill away from players. Maybe on option for those that would like the assistance since those thumb sticks can be touchy at times. There are also cheap easy mods you can do to the 360/PS3 controllers to give you more control with the thumb sticks.

Where is the "auto-aim as an option" choice?

Better yet, where is the "Skyrim is not using auto-aim, it's using a slight aiming-magnetism. Which is a COMPLETELY different system from auto-aim." option.

Seriously, there is a huge difference between Auto-Aim, Magnetism, and Snap to Target.

I voted no. Not because it shouldn't be in, but because I won't use it.

Could you explain the differences? Just had a flick through the thread and couldn't see one, and I haven't played Halo /any FPS that people are comparing it to.

They're all equally annoying and bullcrap systems. As long as I can toggle them (whether I be on the PC or Consoles), then I'm okay with it. I understand some players do like the feature, but I can aim with great precision, and do NOT want it.

It was hard to hit moving targets at range with magic on the PC too, simply because the NPC pathing was unpredictable. They would be running full speed East, then you cast a fireball spell right in their path, and randomly they decide to stop, turn around, or spasm out of control.

Instead of an auto-aim mechanism however (for PC, I mean) I think it would be better if target spells "seek" their target out to a degree.

Sure :)

Auto-Aim is when you hit the target button and your reticle "locks on" to your target. Most of the time you can only hit the chest. This is how it was in early GTA's and most of the time these games don't even have a crosshair

Snap-to-Target is common in most FPS games, when you pull the target button your crosshair "snaps" to your target for a split second to get in their general direction. Comes in handy for fast moving games.

Magnetism is normally used in games that don't have a "target" button like in Halo. When a enemy goes past your crosshairs and they are close by you they "pull" your crosshairs with them for a second. It basically serves the same purpose of Snap-to-Target except you don't control it. Note: This doesn't happen at range, so it doesn't really affect your ability to score headshots.

By the way, Skyrim is using a SLIGHT version of the latter. I honestly doubt most will notice it, and for those who do it should be a toggle option. It is in every shooter I've ever played.

I am all for including features, as long as you can turn them off.

A little less jerky console aiming for longer distances would be nice, but no auto-aim, never, ever, ever...
