Making a character

Post » Sun Jan 16, 2011 1:35 am

I tried searching for this with no luck... I hope this topic isn't a repeat. Having said that, all the videos I've seen on youtube of the character customization look cool. However the load times for it seem to be long . Example: Person goes to pick a new shirt... takes like 5 seconds before the shirt is on the character... picks new color... takes 5 seconds before the color change takes effect.

Is this just because I was watching an old video? This wouldn't be a game breaker in anyway, but this would really svck.

Chances are it will take that long, most games take a while to load up things now cause of all the textures and what-not however if you install it to your 360 it should reduce the time, if you have a PS3 I don't know if you can install or not and obviously it's downloaded through Steam

A very fast-paced world needs everything in a split of a sec huh?
I don't mind at all about this matter, even 10 seconds would be ok for me.

If the game is polished as it should be then this no problem whatsoever.
Even if the game is not polished i don't see this as a problem.

This quote reminded me of the older Twisted Metal or 2D fighting games where you'd select a character and have to wait a few seconds for them to load into the visual field while you're just starring at an empty background image.

With that, you're point makes a lot of sense.

i think most of the vids on youtube of the customization are a bit old, so it may have been an alpha stage of the game, maybe the release version will be a bit faster :)

Hehe, this thread isn't new to these forums. :P (But to be honest, I can't find the first thread about it with a quick search either.)

Yes, the loading times on the customisation are quite long. But then again the items look very detailed, too. No plain items like in All Points Bulletin.
I guess on PCs with good RAM they won't take nearly as long (and remember: RAM is a very big problem on consoles). But on consoles you probably have to install the game to your HDD to decrease the loading times slightly.

Also, depends on the game.

Some games have a small (or large) mandatory amount of installation.

Some games (with or without required install) have an optional install which can speed up loading.

Not all games include either or both options. Most have a small install required (but I've played some with up to 5GB required install), and only a few I've played have optional installs on top of (or instead of) that initial hit.
