What Does a Waiting Door Look Like?

Post » Sun Jan 16, 2011 12:08 pm

I know a lot about Ashlanders and their beliefs overall, but I don't know what things I've heard about in Morrowind lore actually look like (I don't have the game, and I don't think that waiting doors would be in it anyway). I've heard references to a room in large Dunmer houses that are apparently now restricted to Ashlanders that were set aside to honour the ancestors, but what would be in such a room?

Thanks from Ashina Zelaku and me, her creator (although sometimes I think that should be the other way around lol) :foodndrink:

According to http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/ancestor.shtml, family relics and other such things that would remind one of their ancestors. Of course, Ancestors and the Dunmer strikes me as an imperial work that might contain some misunderstandings and oversimplifications. The Dunmer (but non-Ashland) tombs in Morrowind are probably the closest thing we have to the waiting door. Hopefully someone can post a picture, since you don't have the game. (I don't have it either, on this computer at least, otherwise I'd post a screenshot myself.)

Thanks. Also, does anyone know if parts of an ancestor's body would be in a waiting door, or just items of their possession? Or perhaps things that symbolise the entire family? If so, what would this be? A Daedric flag?

Well the ancestor's body would have a variety of uses. iF the family maintained a personal ghostfence, then either the whole body or part of it might be built into the family's personal ghost fence. It could also be sent to Necrom or ressurected as a bonewalker.
