does it do it to you?

When your going to play a new character does oblivion ever make you feel sick worrying about how you are going to level and be good? or do you just play? I will admit that sometimes I feel sick worrying about if my character will turn out right or whatever is going to happen to him. But other times I just play and it works out fine. What do you feel like? My friend starts out every character speed boosting every stat and makes sure it is perfect and will worry like crazy if it will be or not.

I just make sure it suits me.. I don't care about leveling it just comes naturally. I'm always worried about the name and the class he's gonna be and with that the race. Pretty much roleplay but I just chill and thats it

Thats what I try to do most of the time, just let the levels grow on their own. But it seems so slow to me, and the whole time my character seems so powerless.
What I usuallly do is just get everything up to either 75-100 right off the back then I start my roleplaying and act like the character just started out like that. But what I think Ill do is just Roleplay from start and make it so that he trains certian skills whenever he comes to certian places and takes time mastering skills, you know? thanks hahha

Pretty much just play. :obliviongate: Once I figured out how to keep my games from leveling out of control, I no longer worried about the actual game so much.

I don't really worry personally. I have at a couple times started a game, gotten well into it, and at some point go "damn, I wish I had taken this major instead of that one", or I'll think of the PERFECT name for my character, wheras I was stumped when I actually created him or her. :banghead: Whenever I start a new character nowadays, I want those things to be perfect. His or her name, look, some stats. But I don't really "worry" about any of this.

If leveling, the most uninspiring part of the game, makes you sick, then I′d suggest you look for another game :goodjob:

Me, I just play :twirl:

I never worry about it. I choose a character around an RP and follow that. Been playing Oblivion since it's release and I think I have started 7-9 characters. Lost a few to careless formating habits, and only one out of boredom (Orc mage).

Pretty much any type of character will work with Oblivion. I just play. Even if you don't get +5s on everything and you don't get everything maxed as much as it possibly can be, who cares? You'll still be able to kill everything and get through the game without any problems.

I just have fun. I've never had a character that I found was unequipped to deal with the situations the game threw at me, and I've made characters intentionally designed to have weaknesses and shortcomings.

I don't worry about characters, although I do experience disappointment or loss if things go badly, which they sometimes do. My present character is a kind of unique "dead is almost dead" character. (I'm using a little mod I made to restart her, upon death, at level 1, but with a couple of items gained in her "previous life.) She's died four times so far, and even though I don't lose her completely, it's hard to see it happen. Doesn't stop me from playing, though.

Frankly, Oblivion is an easy game. It's pretty hard to make a character who can't get by somehow, and there are so many different ways that one can become tremendously powerful. I really find myself worrying more that my character will get too powerful too quickly, and become boring. I usually try to "gimp" them in some way, to prevent that from happening.

I tend to see a progression that seems to apply to a fair number of players. At first the game is hard and daunting. So, lots of practice and studying occurs learning all about how things work in detail. Then comes building uber characters that approach godlike status. Finally, comes the stage where glargg is: Realization that through knowledge and experience, Oblivion is an easy game. This tends to result in then building characters that are focused on roleplay and rife with intentional gimps to make the game more challenging. Not that this progression applies to all players for sure, but I do believe one's attitude toward the game is strongly influenced by one's degree of experience with it.

I agree with Acadian. For me, when I first started playing Oblivion, I just played the game wandering around with random skills. Then I studied the leveling in detail and many other specifics. Then it came to the point where even though my character was uber, it was boring.

Now I'm playing with Akishme, the Argonian Mage from Blackmarsh. She might not have the magical abilities of a Brrron or High Elf, but she is deadly just the same.

Although I haven′t built more than one character, I agree to this to the fullest extent (regarding other games as well)

I don't play for stats, I play for roleplay. So no, it doesn't matter to me if I start from the bottom every time. I enjoy every stage of the game. :tes:

Mostly just play...thanks to a mod called "S.P.A.M", I don't have to worry about "levelling xxxx times Alchemy in order to increase Intelligence" or so....it lets you define how many points of each Attribute goes up every time you reach a new level. So I just play and enjoy the game :)

I just get pissed because the new character is always near death and runs slowly and has next to no material goods.

But no, I don't feel sick. Just annoyed and sometimes a bit out of sorts, because I'm not used to the character yet. It's always hard to settle in to view Cyrodiil from a completely different perspective with a new character, which is the hardest part in making a new one. Takes time to get used to it. :)
