Another "hey, could X be inspired by Y"-Thread...
Vivec is a very complex character, so even should there have been some sort of inspiration drawn from Dr. Manhattan (only the author would know), it is in my opinion certainly only a part of what constitutes Vivec. Or perhaps Vivec and Dr. Manhattan (I don't know the comic nor have I seen the movie yet) seem so similar because they really have something in common, perhaps the story of a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hero_with_a_Thousand_Faces? And wouldn't that place them well into a line with Luke Skywalker, Neo or even such classic stories of Prometheus, Buddha and Christ?
The important thing to me is: when is the point where something (a story) that may/may not be inspired by another thing becomes so profoundly devised and elaborate to be considered independent, consistent and self-sustaining, in short: to be classified as "new" and/or "original"?
I think the TES world and its characters, events, lore etc. therein can be classified as "new" and "original" despite the many inspirations it had or may have had, be it from world history, religion, mythology, human nature, philosophy or fiction and fantasy. TES is a melting pot of ideas and has evolved into a "New World".
