Please help, my game keeps freezing really early upon start up.

My first start up froze right at the birthday party. Then I loaded it up and it froze while trying to continue my last save file. Please help, I've had to re-install the game twice already and Im dying to play
I'm trying to fix this myself but any help would be greatly appreciated.

The quickest way to sort a problem like this out is to deactivate mods one at a time and starting your game to see which mod is causing it. If you start a new game with no mods does it freeze up?

I was actually guna start doing that as soon as i finished compressing some files to free up a bit of space on my computer. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

I also wanted to confirm something that someone told me on another forum. He said that if i have the official 1.7 patch i don't need the unofficial patch, is this true? I tried to do some research on the matter but i couldn't find anything.

I've never found it necessary to use it. It makes the game unstable for some and not for others so its a matter of individual choice really. The unofficial patch for broken steel is not recommended though.
