Crash when starting new game!

Hi, I recently installed a bunch of mods with the help of BladeofMercy's 50 Steps guide, and Tomlong75210's TESIV: POSItive website. Both have been very helpful, and I was able to install an OOO+MMM + Other Mods + Texture Overhaul mod configuration. However, when I try to follow the last part of the guides (Where you uncheck all esps/esms except Oblivion.esm, save, close, check another plugin, etc.), I run into a major problem. For some reason, whenever I click "New Game," Oblivion CTD's. It doesn't even play the intro movie or anything. And this is with just Oblivion.esm activated! Before I installed mods, I was able to start a new game, so this must be caused by something I did while modding. Oh, and this is the second time I've installed everything (the same issue was happening the first time I modded my game). So, does anyone know why this might be happening? Could it be PyFFIed meshes or something? I PyFFIed all vanilla meshes (using the Toaster tool with skip list), and I also PyFFIed a lot of mods' meshes (texture/mesh replacers, quest mods, magic mods, etc.).

Do not use the automated tools to PyFFI optimize. The latest PyFFI makes them obsolete. If you repacked the BSAs incorrectly, the game would indeed fail. Does the game run when you restore the original BSAs? Have you tried regenerating your Oblivion.ini? If you use a UI mod such as Darnified UI or DarkUIdDarn, you have to redo the font INI tweaks after generating a new INI.

If it crashes without the vanilla BSAs and all mods uninstalled, more investigating needs to be done. If you are using OBSE v18, have you installed the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en?

Ok, I installed the runtime update, but it still crashed. Also, I tried disabling OBSE, but that didn't help either. So, I decided to just uninstall everything and start over again. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time. :) Thanks for the help, though.

Get just MMM+OOO running first, via the guide on TESIV:POSItive (but you may already know this steps at this point.) Then, slowly add to it. Reference the "First Run Guide" as you start.

That used to happen to me, but for some reason unticking that there stopped the crashing on startup. You don't need it for SI anyway(it's a dummy file).

It is a dummy file to load the SI BSAs. You were playing without any of the resources loaded...

I just figured out what was wrong! Because I was installing DarkUI Darn after Oblivion XP, it was overwriting some files that were needed by Oblivion XP (for some reason, OBMM wasn't warning me about the conflicts). So, I just installed Oblivion XP after DarkUI Darn, and now Oblivion works perfectly!

The BSA's are there though x_x and activating it crashes at start up. *shrugs* The door to SI is there and I haven't bothered going in SI. Sorry that I have weird issues with Oblivion that not even I can explain.

It's all good though.

I guess from this point on I just wont say anything since I just gave a bad suggestion.
