Religion in Skyrim?

What do you think Skyrim will do with the religious aspect of both Tamriel and Skyrim? We know the Nords lean towards the Nine but with significant variations compared to the other provinces, but do you think it needs to become a more active, and less passive, part of gameplay? It'd be pretty cool to be able to join guilds based on religion etc again (a la Morrowind, and to a lesser extent KotN), or should it exist mainly for roleplay purposes (i.e. visiting the temple every Sundas or whatever?).

Varieties of Faith in the Empire (the book as seen in Morrowind) indicates that there are a number of pantheons in Skyrim, including Alduin, Dibella, Orkey, Tsun, Mara, Stuhn, Kyne, Jhunal, Shor, Ysmir, Herma-Mora, Maloch. Will these be included in the game, or more to the point, should they be included in the game? And will they form huge structures (much like ancient Greek pantheons)?

Reading the Skyrim Lore page on UESP, the religious aspect in Skyrim, seems pretty interesting and may be a dominant feature of their culture which means, at least to me, that it should be in gameplay.

I think it should be quite prominent. Would definitely be good to have some quests associated with it, such as maybe trying to convert (or wipe out :flamethrower: ) a Daedric cult or something. Or something dealing with corruption in a particular chapel. Plenty of things to do!

religion was not very prominent in MW or OB (MW: yeah there was the tribunal but your interactions with them was not to worship their gods but ascend their ranks or was part of the MQ) and OB there were the chapels which were fairly irrelevent.

Eh.. Personally, I'm not a big fan of organized religion unless it's the Jedi.. But that's more of a way of life than a religion :-p

Haha but seriously, I really enjoyed The Knights of The Nine quests in Oblivion. For my third and final character, I was a Paladin specializing in Restoration and Light Armor for defence, and Blade and Destruction for offense. Before doing the main quest that opened the oblivion gates, I became head of the fighters guild to get my character a decent income and hone my skills. After that I went all religious and did the pilgrimage to begin the KotN quests.

I got real into roleplaying that character. I never stole from or murdered any innocent people, and I wore that crusader armor for the rest of the game, never removing anything other than my helmet for when I went into town to sell my goods. I loved when NPCs would greet me as "The Divine Crusader" or talk of my battle with Umaril high above the White Gold Tower.

The only murder I ever comitted was an accident during a large and chaotic battle involving some of my allies, trying to repel the Daedric invasion, when I struck down one of my fellow Crusaders. He jumped in front of me, no doubt trying to protect me from a powerful Daedra I was in the midsts of battling. But alas, I was already in mid swing and struck him in his back, felling the poor chap in a single blow....

Later that night, as I slept in my private quarters at the Priory of the Nine, I was visited by a most insidious man who called himself Lucien LaChance, and proposed that I murder an innocent fellow so that I may join his "Dark Brotherhood". He thought himself clever enough to cast a Chameleon spell and escape the priory unnoticed but I could not allow that. I knew he was off to recruit others into this twisted organization, so I took it upon myself to take the righteous path and slay this wicked man. His corpse lay outside the Priory for all to see, so that they might know what fate awaited them shall they choose to side with such dark forces...

But yeah, anyhoo.. I would welcome more options to roleplay such characters and introducing religious organizations certainly provides incentive for people to do so.
