Daggerfall - regional reputation

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 4:46 am

My poor Khjaiit thief is hated in the eyes of Daggerfall. That is a problem - as I understand it - if I want to continue the main quest, as I need to have a positive reputation for that to happen. According to uesp.net, I can improve it by either doing The Escort-quest, or by getting arrested and having my reputation improved when I get out of jail. Third one, from what I understood, is to simply wait and the reputation will increase over time by itself. I haven't found this to work for me, so I have some questions.

1. I did one The Escort-quest in the Daggerfall region, but I only escorted the guy and had no one attack me. From what I understand, I am to wait until I get attacked and then hand the guy over to them for an rep increase to happen?
2. I tried several times to go on a murder spree to get arrested, plead guilty, do time and then get out with a better rep, but that didn't work as the only punishment I got was Banishment. I tried picpocking as a minor crime, but still got banished. Does it not work because I have the status "Hated"?
3. I think the Hated-status came because I accepted a certain quest I didn't finish, and thus got stuck with some really bad rep. But that was several hours ago - and several in-game months ago - and I've been all over the province since then, doing a bunch of other quests and raising ranks in the Thieves Guild. Yet I am still hated. How much time must pass for the rep to increase? Do I have to stay in the Daggerfall regions continously for that to happen?

Thanks for any help!

If all else fails:

Actually, if you've been arrested by the guards several times, there's a chance of your legal reputation ("in the eyes of the law of _____") breaking and going to a ridiculous number like -791463. In which case, not only will everyone hate you, but it'll take an eternity for that reputation to break even at 0 again.

Coincidentally I made a http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=922240&hl= about this some time ago. Turns out our buddy Ferital made a program that can let you negate this. His program, Dagrep can be downloaded http://www.uesp.net/w/images/Dagrep.zip.

NOTE: This is only in the event your reputation is indeed broken and has plummeted to some ridiculous number. If it's something like -4, it'd be more fun to wait it out and do quests to redeem yourself. :)

Congratulations on starting what I believe to be the third or fourth thread that I've posted this generic response in. :hehe:

Hehe, sorry, I didn't find any similar thread for me to read. Thanks! But how do I know if my rep is broken or not?

The reputation, as far as I know, cannot "break". Your save game isn't flawed in any way. All I'm saying is that sometimes a run-in with the guards or being found guilty in a court seems to make you lose far more reputation than you would normally. In my case, several thousand. :ahhh:

Just use Dagrep to check the regional reputation with Daggerfall. If it's some ridiculously low number that you know you couldn't have reached through your crimes alone, don't hesitate to kick it back up a bit. Be best to back up all your save games beforehand, just in case. The program has never failed me yet, but it can't hurt to do so anyway.

I don't see why you need a good rep in Daggerfall kingdom to do the MQ. Sure, it'd be easier without the guards popping in for tea all the time, but it's perfectly doable.

Dagrep, is that a file? Sorry, I'm kinda new to how all this works. :)

Oh, you don't, Jormungandr? I remember speaking to the king/Queen/countess in the castle and they said I had to go and get more known or something before they wanted to talk to me again. But perhaps that was because my level was too low.

Right: Your level was too low, or you weren't talking to the right person first. Sometimes you need someone else to put in a good word for you :)
