Clan support?

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 2:55 am

Well with my friends when we play Black ops we always rock the same tag to show unity and funny as it is, kinda scares other players. I'm just curious to how good the support will be? Is it going to be like COD where you can change your tag freely? (Which I am actually against) Or could it be well made as Socom: Confrontations? Where you have name, tag, motto and emblem? Anyone know?

No emblems for sure.

And we don't know about anything else. You can always just have your clan-tag in your display-name/gamertag/psnid, though, no?

Do bear in mind that this game will be using Steamworks, as stated in a recent http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/04/12/steamworks-feature-set-and-system-requirements-for-brink-revealed/. So there is a slight chance that the group system may well be intergrated, but it was not mentioned; so there is no way to be sure.

I'd like if the game has built-in clantag support (because I'd rather not have a separate PSN ID for every game I play, and I'm not a big fan of multi-game clans. They tend to get too complicated and I'd rather keep a clan as just a group of friends).

Not a big deal to me, but another nice idea would be to have the game mark players who are members of a fireteam so you can tell which players are working together directly.

Just have your clan tag in your nickname, like everyone's been doing pretty much forever.

Then tags can be anything from:

IDK Daystar
Daystar | t.KK
Daystar @H|H

And clans' tags can be unique.

Why this won't work for consoles:
I'd rather not have a separate PSN ID for every game I play, and I'm not a big fan of multi-game clans.

Also, if the game's tied to your Steam ID, and there's any kind of restrictions involved in changing that, then the same situation would apply.

How would that apply?

Steam ID has nothing to do with display name / friends name, or even community profile URL for that matter.

Edit: Steam ID is tied to account / username, which is chosen when one signs up for Steam. The above others can all be changed at will.

I was meaning if your in-game name HAS to be your Steam ID.

Just like on PSN, every online game I know of uses your PSN ID, and on XBox Live, every online game I know of uses your Gamertag.

Sorry for not making that clear.

The Steam ID is never your displayed name ingame.

For that, you can set a seperate name. This one is the same in every game, then, but can be changed whenever you want.

Bloody hell. Look, I'll clarify.

My username is "fatwabbit"
My SteamID is "STEAM_0:1:20535267"

These I cannot change.

My display/friends/nickname is "Daystar | t.KK"
My profile's URL is "http://steamcommunity.com/id/daystar"

These I can change.

If you mean using the same name you use for Steam friends, in-game, then yes I think it will and it should, like other Steam games. Your tag goes as part of that name, for example, like I am in Team KritzKast for Team Fortress 2. It's my main game, my main team, and so that's the tag I use. I am also in other communities etc. which I don't use the tag of; that's irrelevant. I'd rather it wasn't like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (and others I'm sure), which have you have a different name in-game (with a specifically different box to write a tag in) that you have to tell everyone and add to a different friends list. I presume that by "Brink uses Steamworks" they mean you'll be able to connect with Steam friends in-game, using everything from Steam: like your name (and possibly avatar too).

Thanks for clarifying. I'm on PS3, and haven't had a PC worth mentioning since before Steam existed (my computer literally doesn't have the graphical capabilities to run MINECRAFT. No joke. I'm working off my flatmate's Mac more often than my computer when I'm online, but I'm not even allowed to install my own browser, let alone a game).

So, Steam users will be fine. Good to know.

Console gamers are still going to be stuck when it comes to this. Hope they implement a clantag option FOR THE CONSOLE VERSIONS.

Better?

Much. ^_^

I lol'd. Hard. But if you're a console gamer then fair enough!

Also, obliviondoll have you realised how much I'm starting to like the ^_^ smiley? It's disturbing... I think someone should make it illegal before it's like a drug for me...

I lol at my computer too. Regularly. But it does all I ask of it (OMF:2097 and F:E2) perfectly well.

And don't worry about the smiley - if they make it illegal, I'll just become a dealer, and you'll still be using them, and remain addicted. You'll just have to pay me for the privilege of doing so...

Hang on... I could use the money *goes to make some calls*
