Daystar: The Synopsis

Here's a potential background I've been thinking about for myself (Medium Security Soldier). I figured I'd write it out. Hope you enjoy reading it, and let me know what you think.

Born on the Ark just a few months after its launch to a Kiwi mother, a doctor in the Ark's hospital, and a Canadian father, an officer on the security team, the young Trent had a desirable upbringing. His friends were wonderfully diverse, and he was constantly in the company of intellectuals and leaders, with an informal education grounded firmly in the stark realities of the time. From the teachers of the Ark he learned of the world he lived in, from his mother everything he could ever want to know about himself, and from his father the nuances of war.

Trent was never particularly muscular, preferring to spend time playing sports or helping out with technical things than in the gym, and although he was fit it was never where his strength lay. It was the clear-sighted vision, the instincts, and the initiative that set him apart. The ability to always see the best solution to a problem, and the knowledge that no one man could succeed alone that made him into what he was.

The refugees started arriving as Trent was in his teens. The first boatload were all treated with great care and dignity, given food, accommodation, and medical care, shown the Ark and given well-paid jobs. At least according to Trent's father, the Founders only ever wanted to treat other human beings with the respect they deserve. But as the boatloads kept coming faster and faster, there was nothing they could do for all of them. It was genuinely not possible, yet it was also impossible to make the tens of thousands of refugees accept that. With more and more unjustifiable unrest growing amongst the refugees, Trent, sympathised with their unfortunate position yet felt irrevocably that the Ark had to be preserved, and that greedy, insatiable miscreants could never be allowed to push their version of the truth onto the population.

Naturally, Trent joined the Ark's Security forces as soon as he was able, being accepted into the most rigorous training program for what was effectively the Special Operations division, and he became tight with his squadmates both in trust and communication. Inherently a leader, but very versatile, he was content to be a key part of my squad, able to focus on whatever was needed most to accomplish the mission. His callsign: Daystar.

There are many ways to help people, from providing assistance... to removing the dangerous.
