It kinda would make sense that you could have different types of ammo loaded, specifically in a grenade launcher setup; for instance, loading frag grenades into the launcher so it shoots grenades... or loading other types of explosives (or hell, non-explosives... bean-bag rounds that have a 100% chance of knockdown in an incredibly small explosion radius?)
What im asking is such: Must weapons always be determined by the weapon stats? What if a type of weapon, an automatic rifle, could be fit with any 5.56 round of variable types? (explosive, regular, tracer, armor piercing even maybe?) The weapon would have a clip size and rate of fire, but other than that, havoc physics and effects of the ammo would come into play (and possibly script the ammo that is fired to be 'destroyed' after it hits something, to prevent picking it back up all the time, although not a problem if the ammos explode)
Is something like this possible? It seems a radical idea that would require a fairly complete overhaul (then again, maybe just a few proof of concept ammos and a weapon)...
