WTF Exploding BABY MINES?!

Post » Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:01 pm

I just started a new play-through, I was walking along about to scavenge some little trailer thing when all of a sudden I heard the sound of a baby crying and then a mine blow up. I know this sound was in-game. Ambient Wasteland glitch? Easter Egg?

My second, less interesting question is if RAM booster works with FOSE since they both replace the fallout.exe, do they work together?

No, that's just part of the game. Every so often you'll come across a baby carriage that has been rigged with a mine. If you have a high enough Explosives skill you can disarm them. Otherwise run like hell if you hear the baby crying, as they're fairly powerful.

And no FOSE does not replace the Fallout.exe, just the launcher.

The 4GB patch and things like Gboost and Game Booster work fine with FOSE.

Well, slightly powerful... like stubbing your toe. I decided that they http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14131.

They're still my favorite trap in Fallout 3. Evil sense of humor, those developers.

I wouldn't recommend you try it if you're using Windows XP. There's a problem with that OS when you try to add more memory to a program, you run into memory address conflicts with certain drivers. When I tried to get Fallout to be able to use more memory I kept having my whole system shut down since my video card would lock up, and I'd sometimes even get the blue screen of death. The memory address issues were fixed in later OSs, but not in XP.

They deal more than enough damage at point-blank range to kill a Wastelander. As for the details, they're composed of a baby carriage, at least one Frag Mine, and a doll head. They also have some sort of proximity sensor; they're the only true proximity mine I can think of, the other mines are supposedly floor traps but will go off based on proximity if the character doesn't have the Light Step perk; but the Light Step perk doesn't affect the baby carriage trap. With 60(?) or more skill, you can disarm the trap; you can then use the Grab control to carry it somewhere within the same worldspace, set it down, and re-arm it as either a proximity trap or a time bomb (10 seconds). This can be used to kill friendly NPCs without a karma penalty and without hostility from anyone that wasn't hostile before (with the exception of Arefu/The Family, who will be angry with you if any of their members dies regardless of the reason).

Well they're more powerful than a regular Frag Mine at any rate. And yes, they are kind of a cool trap aren't they? It caught me completely by surprise the first time I encountered one. Pretty easy to avoid getting injured by them though, once you're aware of them.
