FOSE Error

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 7:48 am

Whenever I try launching Fallout 3 after installing patch 1.6 of Fallout, and updating GECK to 1.5 I got FOSE 1.2 vbeta2, but whenever I click FOSE loader I get an error saying exactly this:

You have an unknown version of Fallout. Please check http://fose.silverlock.org to make sure you're using the latest version of FOSE, then send an email to the contact addresses listed in fose_readme.txt if this version is not supported in the latest release.

I don't know why it's doing this, could somone help please.

Open your Fallout 3 folder and ensure that fose_1_6.dll is present. I would also advise you to upgrade to the 1.7 patch (where you need to use the fose_1_7.dll).

Edit: Note that you need to look in your Fallout 3 folder, not your Fallout 3/Data folder.

I suggest updating to 1.7 as well. fose_1_6.dll not being there will give a different error message, so that isn't the problem. That CRC isn't in the list, so there might be something wrong with the EXE.

First, let me know if you're using a no-gore version of fallout (the exe will be named fallout3ng.exe). In that case things are probably fine, but you will need to update to 1.7 as we only support the latest no-gore version. If you aren't, right-click on fallout3.exe, go to properties, go to the Digital Signatures tab, double-click on the "ZeniMax Media Inc." entry in the list, and make sure the window that shows up says "this digital signature is OK".

If the signature doesn't validate, the exe has been corrupted somehow. Try running it against an online virus scanner like http://www.virustotal.com. If the signature validates, then I just haven't seen the EXE before and need to add it to the list. Please send me a PM in that case.
