Recommended electronic music?

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 2:57 am

Hey,

I'm in an electronic music phase, and I'm having trouble discovering new bands!

It would be great if anyone could post any electronic musicians they like (not just for my sake, :P).
Also, any good speedcore would be great (ex. The Speed Freak).

For those who like electronic, here are a few I most certainly recommend:

Tom Deluxx, The Toxic Avenger, The Proxy (some), The Bloody Beetroots, Boys Noize (some), Crystal Castles, The Cyberpunkers (some), Eclier, Les Petiks Pilous (awesome stuff, I think), and Skrillex (some).

For those interested in speedcore and related (ex. hardcoe tech.), I recommend this new musician I found, Schwanzgefecht -- I can only find it on video sites, unfortunately.

Can you post some links? My own searches inevitably only turn up stuff that's basically just techno witha beat over and over again.

Pure Reason Revolution went from a progressive rock sound to something with more electronic elements in it. I quite like it, but I don't know if it's in any way similar to what you're listening to.

Vintage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzqg7K87GJU. Anything by them. I'm not really aware of a LOT of current artists, but I imagine there are some very good ones.

Also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDa3ARP2Rww. Pretty impressive. Sometimes virtual unknowns are doing great stuff.
I like the anolog stuff. So much warmth and character.

Well, I occasioanlly like some hardstyle. Donkey Rollers, Southstylers, Technoboy, Brennan Hart, that kind of stuff.

I also like some electronic-centered industrial, like KMFDM

Everything on this label/page could fit that category. Check out COOLRUNNINGS and WALSH. Also, it's all free d/l.
Forgot to say, a couple of the album covers are NSFW and contain nudity. Apologies for offenses.

:foodndrink: I've seen them live twice. Once in the 80s, and again about 7 or 8 years ago. I'd recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxPTjPzTVdM.

Also check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PdPXkff0wE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUUaG0bVOHo by Kraftwerk. If robots had a soul, they'd make music like Kraftwerk.

For something contemporary, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4r-Ponwcwg, the guy has a lot of talent.

What exactly counts as electronic music?

I like Prodigy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmin5WkOuPw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_PAHbqq-o4 (and the whole album)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q7FFjUpVLg

Most of my electronic music is really dance/trance/techno, with some quirky ones like above.

It's actually a pretty broad definition these days.

http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/silence is pretty interesting, worth listening through L'autre endroit at least once.
I really like http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Hungry_Lucy_%282%29, trip-hoppy goodness. Try You Are, Could It Be?, and Storm.
http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Fauna and http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/tryad get only a quick mention 'cause I gotta go eat.

EDIT: Tag.

These artists defined my musical taste, very glad to have gotten into them when I was younger.

The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, DJ Shadow, Paul Oakenfold, Crystal Method (Vegas, specifically), Aphex Twin

Contemporary Winners: Bibio, Onra, Miami Horror, Danger ( extreme win right here ), Clark, Flying Lotus, SebastiAn

I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but Mogwai's album, The Hawk Is Howling, is fantastic for sort of ambient music. Not exactly "electronic", but the sound is similar to things that could be called that.

Also, The Limousines' album Get Sharp is good for electropop.

Discovered John Stanford's ambient trance recently and I absolutely love it. Well worth a listen:

(You can download all his tracks at http://johnstanfordmusic.com/.)

Pretty much everything on The Prodigy's Music for the Jilted Generation is tremendous:

And unlikely as it sounds, check out the soundtrack for Streets of Rage 2 (old Sega game):
