Scaling in Elder Scrolls V

Post » Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:40 pm

I want to keep my own post as unbiased as possible as to keep the poll responses as informative as possible.

In regards to scaling, would you rather Elder Scrolls V be more like Oblivion or Morrowind?

Not sure what you're expecting to get from this poll exactly... considering the fact that levelling up was made redundant if not disadvantageous by Oblivion's scaling system and that it meant that you could only see mid level creatures such as trolls for a very small window Oblivion's system was terrible.

Morrowind's lack of scaling made for a greater sense of character progression. Blah blah weak PC blah blah Daedra lord blah blah come back later blah blah feels awesome when he dies etc etc.

I want to be slaughtered when I walk into the TES V equivalent of a daedric ruin/shrine at level 1.

There was no scaling in Morrowind.

That is true. There is very little in Oblivion, for creatures/undead/Daedra, anyway, while we're on that subject. Most of it, in both Morrowind and Oblivion, are difference creatures spawning based on the PC's level.

Anyway, I would prefer to have the situation handled more as in Morrowind, especially if we're discussing item scaling in this. I hate unique items being permanently stuck in a weaker form due to obtaining them at a certain level.

Level scaling in Oblivion was very unpopular, something Bethesda commented on and changed in Fallout 3 so I doubt we'll see it in future games.

TES III did have level scaling but it was largely limited to wandering monsters. Fallout 3 operated similarly although it was a bit more complex.

Either way if you have suggestions for TES V please keep it to the official TES V thread.
