Is it save to dig up 60 old firearms?

Guessing he will dig until he hits http://www.ubasics.com/dighole/ due to the odds of a vegetable field being dug up every few months...

I said it was near, not in a potato field.

I think your Grandmother is pulling your leg and wants you to go and dig about, because she wants to plant a garden and need the soil broken up a bit.
I love metal detecting, and I'm envious of people who live in areas that are rich in history....especially in Germany and the UK and other places where there is a chance to find things that are truly ancient....WWII is not ancient by any stretch but you know what I mean...guns would be interesting nonetheless.
Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for, and common sense should rule in this situation.

Dig them up, please do it. If you find them you could always report them and the worst thing that would happen is surrendering the guns. Just call it amateur archaeology. Possessing them and wielding them is one thing (I'm familiar with American gun laws, not European, so I have no idea what is allowed over there), but finding them and then petitioning to keep them if they are disarmed or surrendering them seems like it wouldn't be a big deal. If they're uncovered underground, they'll just rust away if you leave them there. Makes for a cool story to tell yer spawn, if you ever have any.

Dig them up and send them to me. Texans always need more weaponry.

Do it.
Just keep them indoors once you've got them where you want them and there shouldn't be much of a problem. As far as I know ammo doesn't get more unstable in the ground, rather the opposite should be true. Even with fresh ammo you've got do something stupid to make them go boom. Like fixing it firmly in place at a workbench and hitting its back with a hammer. :woot:

Are you sure that's not "especially when I mention the guns"?

I've noticed talking about guns too much makes people loathe to hand them to you.
