Smoke Bombs, Cloaks, and Fake ID's

Post » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:31 am

So, I was thinking. With the new game apparently being able to support a lot more, why not make it possible to be a full-blown assassin, such as Altair or Ezio?
We already know that with the Civil War going on, political tensions have burst. Being able to assassinate members of the opposing party would be awesome, assuming, of course, we get to pick a side.

EDIT: Its late, I forgot the Fake ID part. Sorry.

So, to make being an assassin feasible, I propose these ideas:

Smoke Bombs-Mapped to either hand, these would obscure the vision of any guards following you, allowing you an easy escape. This seems like it would work perfectly with Radiant Story, with guards reacting to the smoke with confusion. This would attract guards to the scene, however, and would only be effective as a distraction.

Disguises-Similar to the Faction Outfits in FO:NV, these could vary from guard armor to the robes of scholars, and equipping one would decrease the chance of the guards recognizing and arresting you. The chance of being discovered would increase or decrease based on both the "power" of the disguise (i.e, guard armor is more effective than monk robes) and your bounty.

Crysis 2 Style ledge-grabbing-You've had it happen to you. You can't reach that flat ledge an inch above your character, because its beyond him to grab the ledge. I'm not sure if this is possible to implement in a game like Skyrim, but it sure would be nice.

So, those are my ideas. Leave feedback on those you think need work, or blatantly say they svck. You decide

idk what your talking about with the crysis thing but the rest sounds up my ally.

as a fan of assassin based games i would love to have:

smoke bombs - a small bomb that produces ALOT of smoke that can produce a means of escape, confusion, and distraction

caltrops - small bladed pieces of metal that no matter how they land a sharp point faces up, insuring to stop anything that steps on one

tripwires - can be used to trip people that run into it or can be used to set off bombs, smoke bombs, or flash bombs

mines - device that when stepped on causes a explosion that will harm or kill the one that steps on it

black eggs - eggs filled with powdered glass or powdered pepper that would be crushed in your hands and then flung in the face of an enemy. they were called black eggs because they were usually painted black because a white egg is too easily seen

flash bombs - a explosive device that creates a blinding flash of light that blinds and disorients any one that is looking in its direction when it goes off (including you, hide your eyes!!!!)

all of which would be feasible to see in a TES game since they have been used for hundreds of years. the most advanced on my list being the flash bomb which could be made with alchemy or even magical enchantment

Yeah, so, uh, replace "bombs" with "fire trap" or something like that and it's fine.

"Disguises" though, eh. Like, NPCs should react to your outfits in certain situations, at least. If I run around naked, people should notice. If I walk around in Dark Brotherhood gear, people should notice. If I walk around in Imperial guard armor, the other Imperial guards should try to arrest me for impersonation. I don't think disguises should really work. This isn't Assassin's Creed or Hitman. Let's not go overboard.

As far as grabbing onto ledges, I wouldn't mind it but I don't think it's necessary for an assassin or otherwise.

I've always thought climbing should be in ES, it'd be great for acrobats, assassins, thieves...

I won't touch on the smokebombs, I think they are definitely a cool idea, but some people associate any pyrotechnics with guns, etc. But disguises. Disguises are huge. I think if you wear a mask when committing a crime, then change your clothes and take off the mask, the guards should not know it was you (depending on several factors, such as proximity, time, etc)

Fake IDs seems a bit silly, but smokebombs definitely (have it part of alchemy). Disguises would also be good, as in you run around a corner and change clothes and a guard asks you where the guy they were chasing (you) went, and if you have enough speechcraft, you can convince him they went such and such way. They already said no climbing, but I hopebasic pulling yourself onto ledges is basic enough for it to not count to them (or for them to somehow add it in in the next 9 months).
