Female iron armor uses male mesh?

Is there any way to make the female iron armor NOT morph when equipped? The cuirass and the greaves?

Meaning, you want to use the male version of the cuirass and greaves on a female character? It is certainly possible, but would require some 3d modeling to refit the male mesh to the female body, as otherwise there would be weird skin alignment and clipping issues (probably).

If you want to test it without doing any of that, you can just find the armor in the CS and change the model path to that of the male mesh, but I can't speak for what kind of visual results you'd get.

Why would there be alignment issues? The steel armor, for example, doesn't really morph for females. I just don't like the blouse/skirt thing.

Just depends on what body mods you have, and what else you want to wear with it. Try and see, it may turn out okay!

It's because the body is part of the clothing/armor items in Oblivion. When you equip a male item on a female you will get male body parts. Depending on what bodies/body mods you're using this will include texture issues (texture layout is different from body mesh to body mesh, and while meshes come with the items textures are race specific) and of course the meshes will not align at the borders, creating a very noticable gap between upperbody and lowerbody for example.

Thus there is no clean and useful way to do it apart from taking the actual armor meshes and putting them onto your respective female bodyparts. This will require NifSkope at least, and a modeling app like Blender or 3DS Max, if it does not fit right from the start.

You could be lucky though and the mesh could be unisix, fitting all bodies already. Very bulky armors with not the least bit of skin showing through are likely usable this way. All others will require remodeling.

Good timing, I actually just got finished doing this myself. The female version of iron armour is really dumb: terrible looking and completely ridiculous.

Since I moved things around in the mesh the rigging is off slightly though. Nothing major, the plates that hang from the waist bend. I can upload it regardless though, up to you.

Can I see any screens?

You can see the rigging problem best in the second image.

+1 :)

Someone on the mods forum just pointed me here, and yeah, I'd like to see how this solution works out, if you would be so kind.

Extract to your Data folder. I included all of the male meshes so that you can just extract it and go, but I've only actually modified the boots, cuirass and gauntlets. A neater solution would be to change which meshes the female versions use in the CS but I'm a bit busy, sorry. Also the icons haven't been changed. Again, 30 seconds work in the CS.

Edit: actually, I just remembered; I think the cuirass actually includes the gauntlets as part of the mesh (accidentally). If you don't know how to remove them yourself in NifSkope I'll reupload a fixed mesh tomorrow sometime.

Unexpected free time today so I got rid of most of the rigging weirdness (still not perfect but then the vanilla mesh isn't either) and made the ESP. Now includes only those files that have been modified, much neater. If anyone downloaded the previous file, delete everything.

New file: http://www.mediafire.com/?13d5m2jmhu5po3d

Extract to your data folder again.

Thanks, Myopic. Much appreciated. I'll see how it looks in-game, but it's very promising indeed. :foodndrink:

I don't mean to spoil your fun, but if you are interested, I have converted some of the male iron and chainmail armors to female, and you can download them on tesnexus. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34242

EDIT: Ooops, I just noticed that my mod was mentioned on the other thread.
