nif files and mods

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 12:24 pm

ok so i followed the steps in this tutorial as someone was so kind to link me to. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/How_to_use_custom_resources

problem is that after i tried to get them into the mod, they werent showing up when i tried to right click in the list and select new and create the new id and all that. they wouldnt show up in the list at all. i dont know if they were showin up in some other random place though because when i would try it again i get the message the id is not unique.

so then i tried to right click edit an existing object in the list and give it a new editor id then import its nif file from there. this seemed to work better as the objects then began to show up in the list. however, once i saved the mod and exited it then reopened the mod, the new objects were all gone. however, when i tried to recreate them using the same names the cs told me the id was not unique. i am not sure what is happening here or where they are disappearing to.

help? thankyou.

ok i just thought of one possible issue with this but need confirmation if im right before spending hours trying to do it right and so on...

could i be trying to create the new objects into the wrong list?

to explain, im using a modders resource. recently members of this forum helped me properly install that resource and showed me the link on how to insert the objects into my own mod. i am now on this step, to insert the objects into my mod. this is where the problem is that i described above.

the objects from the modder resource are cemetary pieces. some of them include mosoleums with doors. i was originally trying to insert these objects into the world objects/static/cemetary list in the object window. but is it possible it doesnt actually belong there due to the doors which might need interacting with? if so then where should i put them? thankyou.

Are you sure they are not there under a new folder? I think if you add a resource from eg 'data\meshes\mymod' then a new folder is made in say objects\statics called 'mymod'. This would explain why you think they have 'disappeared'.

Click on the category the new meshes were added to (i.e. if they were added to Statics, click on Statics). Then, in the Object List, expand the column that displays the FormIDs of the objects. If you click on the bar at the top of the column (the on that says FormID), all items in that category will be arranged by their FormIDs. The new items will have FormIDs starting with 01.
