Quick way to find empty WAV voice files?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:29 am

I'm guessing that most serious modders use Elys' Universal Silent Voice, or have at least heard of it.
Long story short, I've installed hundreds of mods on my machine, and only recently realized I have a LOT of unnecessary empty WAV files cluttering up my Sound folder. Does anyone know a quick way to find all empty WAV files?

Edit: Whoops, posted in the wrong forum. Sorry.

Could maybe sort them by file size, and delete all the ones that are like... 0kbs

WAV files aren't compressed though...Wouldn't an empty 10 second clip have the same file size as a voiced 10 second clip?

Yeah I think they are the same size. I know I've got a mod that has some voiced files and others aren't. I had to go through and open all of them to find the empty ones... What about looking at the binary? In my case, a voiced mp3 started with ID3, whereas all the empty ones seem to start with a bunch of gibberish :) Basically extended ascii characters...

Heh, how embarassing. I kept insisting that they were empty WAV files but they're empty MP3 files. Whoops :).
Still, since they have to be constant bitrate MP3s to work in Oblivion, it should still be true that they're the same size whether empty or voiced. I'll have to try looking at the ID3 tags, that's a good idea thanks!
