Wrong thread.

Do you receive this error if you try to save immediately after loading those mods?

The dialog boxes aren't constrained to the program window (nor are the other windows such as the object window, render window, or cell window). If you run multiple monitors and have the CS maximized on one monitor, you can still drag the dialog boxes and other windows to the other monitor(s). This probably isn't your issue, but it's something to remain aware of.

ah ok . does this however incude other external windows ? im running one monitor atm,

for example , running firefox , windows media player , msn. does this have an effect ?

my resolution atm is set to 1280 x 1024 , the only different my pc has got is a new graphics card ( nvidia geforce 8800 gtx 512 )

Is there any known problems with this card causing a problem ?

My pc however has been on for like 30 days so im gona restart it to see if this fixes the problem

That message would be so much more helpful if there was a menu for open dialog windows you could check and pop them to the top of the z-order. I'd drag the three standard panes (the ones you don't have to close) around in case a dialog is hiding underneath. It's not clear what would have been opened if you did nothing but load your data files, but Murphy's Law dictates that they'll be at the back!

There is !! - At the top go to VIEW - Open Windows and it lists all of the open windows !! and if you click on a window in he list and click bring window to front it will bring it to the front of the other windows on the display.

That shouldn't have an effect. Let us know if rebooting solves the problem.

i rebooted and still the same problem , i looked at the open window menu and it was empty.

i also loaded tes4 cs and move the boxes , nothing behind or anything . its just so odd to why this has happened,

i reinstalled again and still the same problem.

i also got the 3d max exporter and the dds viewer. i dunno if this effects it at all but thats to do with other external programs i thought.

* Error Image - hope this helps *

Do you have the latest version of TESCS installed? It looks like your screen is clear of "extra" dialog boxes.

Are you trying to edit something from Knight.esp if so this could be problem. Since cs editor does not like having Knight.esp activated alongside other mods. Because it was built a version of cs editor that we do not have..

dlc shivering isle is blank.esp so you should not load that ..nothing to change in that..

*bump*

I'm still having trouble with this myself. I'm running Windows 7 64, but I've recently run XP SP3 on the same machine. I couldn't save new .esps with XP, and I still can't save with 7.

I have switched the AllowUnsafesaves to =1 in the .ini, but that doesn't seem like a real fix to me-- only temporary. I just want to know what the crap is wrong with my cs.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I know editing the ini "fixes" the problem in that it allows you to save again, but that wasn't a solution I was happy with.

In the meantime, I found out what was causing the error-- I'll post it because it seems like there are at least a few others who have run into the same problem.

I was running a program that gave me more features for working on dual monitors (in this case Ultramon) which was causing my CS to think there were extra dialog boxes that were still open. As long as it was running, I was unable to save; once I closed Ultramon, I could save without a problem.

If anyone is still having a problem, be sure to close any of these types of programs. You'll be able to save in the CS without having to edit the ini.

Yeah I can confirm that! I had this problem when I first upgraded to Win 7. I changed the ini. I also had problems with Oblivion itself not starting. I installed Ultramon so that I could leave Windows in dual monitor mode while running Oblivion. Now I'm not sure if I got the CS error right off the bat or only after installing Ultramon. Anyway, I uninstalled Ultramon because I didn't want to buy it :) I tried running Oblivion in dual monitor mode anyway - and it worked. Since then I've created multiple installations using TES4 manager and I just noticed that I don't need to set the CS ini to allow unsafe saves anymore! And I enjoy the benefit of using the CS with dual monitors - I can drag the render window to the other monitor :)

Definitely things to consider if you're running into this problem.
