Mods do add some more fun and realism to the game, but I'd say you should save the money for Skyrim.

Thnx for the reply well Skyrim is a couple of months away, money ain't the problem :P
It's just that I am curious what extra gameplay the mods bring compare to the un-modded version i have on my Xbox 360

Yes I would highly recommend it but..
How good is your PC to run all the high texture mods like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18498
And there is thousands of other http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/ to choose from.

If your computer is good enough then i would say yes, otherwise ask yourself if you are willing to upgrade so you can play Skyrim on your PC, no point upgrading just so you can play Oblivion with mods.

And like others have said there are thousands of mods, you can pretty much find anything you've ever dreamed of.

It's not a matter of buying the game for PC or consoles, it's a matter of how powerful your PC is.

If it is enough, remove any doubts and go for PC.

There's a lot of difference of opinion about how good the game is as a playing experience without mods. With mods, there's really no difference. Mods let you tailor your playing experience to fit your wants. Want to rebuild Kvatch? Create plenty of new enemy creatures? Move creatures around so they have no relationship to your level, but to given places? Add dozens of quests? Full-featured companions with lengthy quest systems of their own? Hundreds of houses for different professions? Tweak the game to make it harder or easier in some respect? Add new shops and items, even the ability to watch models try on armor and clothing for you? It's all there, with mods.

Aye, if you have (or plan to acquire) a computer that can do a modded installation justice, by all means go PC. If you do go PC, I recommend buying PC GOTY on disk rather than one of the download versions. Downloads can be a bit trickier to mod with. In fact at least one downloaded version limits which mods can be used. (It doesn't support the OBSE utility, which a number of mods rely on.) In any case GOTY on disk is all of $20. You can't go wrong at that price. Heck, I bought a second disk copy a month or so ago, both as backup and so I don't have to transfer disk 1 between my two computers. A bit overkill for minor convenience, but again at $20 the expense is negligible.

There is a learning curve to proper mod installation and management. You'll likely be frustrated at first, and curse those who talked you in to it. Just take things nice and easy. It'll come. I'm probably one of the least intelligent people on the face of the earth, yet I mastered it. Well, maybe not mastered, but I rarely run in to mod installation snafus I can't solve given a bit of time, research, and queries posted on our Mods sub-forum.

As has been mentioned, mods offer many benefits. You can correct perceived deficiencies, make the game harder or easier, add mobs, NPCs, companions, mounts, buildings, villages, cities, and even whole provinces, acquire new armor and weapons, add quests and tasks, make Cyrodiil more visually appealing (or less so if you need to play on an otherwise inadequate computer), change game mechanics, make Cyrodiil more immersion, go naughty, add joinable factions, and much more.

Do your research before you buy. Make sure your computer is indeed fully capable of running a heavily modded Oblivion. Be especially careful the graphics subsystem. Many commercial pre-assembled system come with bottom-of-the-barrel graphics cards or even integrated graphics chips on the motherboard. What's more, those same computers often house minimal wattage power-supplies that make adding a high-end graphics card impractical unless the PSU is also replaced. Best thing to do if in doubt is post your specs here and let us take a look at 'em.

Definitely get it on the PC. Honestly--and not trying to put anyone down or start anything--I think it's silly to get it on anything BUT the PC. Not only do you get access to the command console, which can fix pretty much any bug encountered in vanilla Oblivion, as well as a ton of other practical uses, and not only do you get access to mods which can completely change your experience and add a lot of fun content (as well as some mods that add AN ENTIRELY NEW GAME using the engine, ala Nehrim) but you also get access to the Construction Set, which means YOU can make your own mods and do whatever you want with the game.

Versus the console versions where all you have is just the vanilla game and nothing else. It's obviously a great vanilla game, but PC users have access to like 200% more content.

You won't regret it, I bought it for the PC eventually just for mods and the CS and it's so much better than the 360, in my opinion :)

Get it on PC. Even the GOTY isn't that expensive anymore, and Oblivion has the greatest mod community I've ever seen. Mods will add many many hours to your playtime. I only wish my computer was good enough to be able to run Skyrim when it comes out...

The only reason I don't go PC is because I don't want to sit hunched in front of my computer for hours. I'd rather kick back in a comfy armchair with a control pad and a brew. Though the mods that I have seen like Better Cities are amazing.

If you do get the PC version for mods, don't play Nehrim! It's too damn good. It's completely spoiled Skyrim for me by raising the bar too high!

Play it after Skyrim.

I don't know any specs for it or if there are any minimum requirements released yet, but I like to follow the logic that if they plan on releasing Skyrim also for the XBox 360 and PS3, then there shouldn't be any problem for any modern PC or a PC of the same era as those consoles' release to run Skyrim.
