Epic Endings

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 3:51 am

Of course the ending will be epic.

Remember the first time you stepped into the final dwemer ruins in Red Mountain and hearing Dagoth Ur speak to you for the first time? Remember entering that final room and finally meeting him face to face? Remember running for your life to the Heart of Lorkhan as Dagoth Ur chased you down the narrow path? Remember pounding at the Heart and then sprinting across the bridge to safety just as the Akulakhan fell to pieces into the lava, along with the devil Dagoth Ur?

And now Skyrim is taking place in the frozen land of the Nords where a giant dragon is coming to end the world.

Yeah. We won't be disappointed.

MW end was lame, Dagoth Ur was not impressive at all. Oblivion on the other hand was awesome, 'holy crap look how big that dude is!' I kept thinking.

Alduin is a world eater...he gobbles up chunks of the world whole

How will Bethesda implement that?

How can a human being defeat a world eater?

By giving him tooth decay.

Dagoth Ur had a whole lot of plot to him, Mehrunes Dagon was just involved because it'd be cool to have Sat--err a Daedric Prince in the flesh.

Really? I mean yeah, seeing Mehrunes Dagon in the flesh was certainly a heart pounding moment, but I always imagined him being huge. Dagoth Ur was a mortal god, and I thought he looked cool as hell. I remember getting chills when I first entered the Dagoth Ur Facility and heard his voice. "Come, Nerevar. Friend or traitor, come."

I do agree though, I think Oblivion's ending was more epic. Just not by much.

I think it was both. Mehrunes Dagon had a lot of plot to him that has been built up since Arena.

How many of you remember the shock and awe moment when Merhunes Dagon shows up in full size in Oblivion?

How many remember the epic battle with Akatosh where a single blow could wipe out a city?

Since then all the boss characters from Umaril, to Pelinal, from Sheogorath to Jyglagg have been underwhelming in comparision

I hope they make Alduin Epic enough for a world eater...

I remember laughing my ass off when I saw this Mehrunes actually, I just didn't get the epic feeling there. I guess nobody will be surprised when i say Dagoth Ur was far more engaging and felt a lot more epic. All the others mentioned weren't really that epic either, allthough I did like charging at the purifier with Liberty Prime, while paiting the scenery with the ravaged corpses of enclave soldiers, it was as if they walked into a meatgrinder when i went strolling through there.

Yes :)

Would be funny if there was a functional robot (Dwemer made) similar to Liberty Prime in Skyrim.

I'd prefer a good well written ending to a epic ending.

In Skyrim, you play the bastard child of Uriel Septim and a dragon (you can be any race because of the magical nature of dragons). Not just any dragon, but that really fearsome one (you know the one I mean). This fact is not revealed to you until the climix, when you learn that your dragon-mother has kidnapped your notsodragon-father, and it's up to you and your dragon shouts to find him (I'm looking for my father, middle-aged guy, maybe you've seen him?). During the ending, you have to defeat your mother in not-so-mortal combat. You succeed, but she amalgamates her essence with that of Uriel Septim and transforms into an even greater, sixless dragon of nearly limitless power. She kills you, but not really. Instead, your soul ends up in limbo and you must choose between your draconian gifts, or the divine power offered to you by the gods before you can clamber back into reality and slay your own mother/father. Naturally, this brings peace to the land, and you'll see Nords breaking bread with Dunmer and whatnot.

tl;dr: I was bored so I made up a fake plotline, borrowing tropes heavily from other games, movies, and books.

lol

An Epic ending would be suiting up in a Dwemer Powered Battle Armor thats phased between existences so you can't be eaten but are able to do massive damage, after rolfstomping Alduin you once again unite Tamrielerrr Skyrim under one banner by stomping out the opposition in your Might Dwemer Battle Armor. :D

How about Mass Effect level of epic? Maybe Skyrim would benefit from some well placed cutscenes to show some really epic stuff that just couldn't be portrayed any other way.

OB's main quest in general svcked, especially the ending. It was so anticlimactic seeing someone else fight the enemy. Fallout's ending was pretty cool though, though I was mad that it had an ending.

I'm not a lore buff by any means so correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't that just a little to literal?

I don't think Alduin actually physically eats the world, doesn't he just unmake creation?

.....Well I hate to admit it but I was not really that overwhelmed by the ending of oblivion.I agree with the post above me yea it felt like yu-gi-oh. I'm hoping for a much more quality ending with a tad bit more depth. :flamethrower:

I agree as well, but think it is hard to make the player themself the key person while at the same time doing something epic in scale fitting to defeating a god/deadric prince etc. This is why I am so impressed with Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings. He managed to create an ending that both made sense for the characters (little Frodo really isn't that strong) and yet suitably epic.

In TES, I think any attempt to really make us combat Gods won't work, because there is no way our power should even resemble theirs. This is especially the case when I will then continue to play the game and take 10 hits to kill a little goblin. You can't really reconcile those two levels of strength without introducing a hidden variable that explains your power (great ring or something of the like).

So I guess I would like a good ending, but the emphasis should be on its quality, and not "epicness". Like you said :)
