my mage build

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:02 am

  • Race: Breton
  • Birthsign: Mage
  • Attributes: Intelligence and Willpower
  • Specialization: Magic
  • Stats: Destruction, Conjuration, Alteration, Illusion, Mysticism, Restoration, and Marksmanship
  • Male

Is this a good build, or should I have taken different skills instead of all the magic schools?

I'd replace Marksman with a melee weapon. Other than that its a perfect build. With Destruction you wont need to use a bow.

Keep all the magic skills but switch to Altmer Apprentice. Right now you have the beginner level mage build.

Destruction can replace a melee weapon just as easily as it can replace a bow. In fact, more easily because on touch spells are more efficient than ranged ones. Use what you would enjoy playing. Same for race/birthsign. Your build is fine.

There's nothing at all wrong with that build in and of itself. The only thing that really matters is what sort of character you want to play, and since I'd assume you want to play a Breton mage, you're good to go.

Pretty much the same build as my Breton Mage. If your not trying to limit your level then I would look at either Mercentile, Speechcraft or Alchemy. Only take Alchemy though if you feel confident about limiting its development so you don't race through levels to quick. I take Mercentile myself, mainly for RP reasons but I find it very useful overall and being able to make more out of every item I sell when I can't carry very much makes a big difference to me.

Try to use all of the spell schools equally as you level and play. Don't forget there is a lot of things you can do with Conjuration, Illusion and Alteration. Restoration and Mysticism have very specfic uses but still come in useful a lot of the time.

Zak there is nothing begineer about any build. Everybody plays their own way no one class is easier to play then another. I play a Breton Mage with the slider right over to the right hand side so there is nothing easy about it.

I would:

-switch from Breton to High Elf

-switch from Mage to Apprentice

-switch from Marksman to Blade

That's just my opinion, but do whatever you want. It's your character.

You should only do that if you want to have the highest magicka possible and you don't mind having a 200% weakness to it (which can be somewhat expensive because you'll have to spend a lot on potions and/or enchantments). Plus it can be annoying when fighting Necromancers or Conjurers.
Stick with Breton and go with Apprentice you'll only have a 50% weakness to magicka.
Stick with Breton and Mage birthsign and you'll have a 50% resistance to magicka.
