Melee griefing

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 5:28 pm

I've seen melee bashes in some of the videos. It's my understanding that one melee hit is a knockdown, and another melee hit after they're knocked down is an insta-kill with bonus xp.

However, in one of the videos ( I think the cheesy-but-informative Qore interview ), it showed a player melee-ing an enemy repeatedly, knocking him over again and again and not really bothering to shoot him.

I see potential for "jerk maneuvers" and griefing in this case, but I doubt SD would overlook this mechanic.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Melee (except with knife, which does bonus damage) knocks a player down.

While down, you can choose to shoot OR get up.

If you get up when the guy comes over to melee you again, he'll keep knocking you down, and it'll take longer to kill you, but you won't be able to shoot back. And if he stays back and shoots you, you won't be able to return fire while you're getting up. If you stay down and shoot, you risk him coming over for the quick one-hit melee. If you've already hurt him a bit, getting close is a risk for him too.

I don't think melee is going to be too much of a problem. I'd watch out for the Light ninjas. From what I've heard, players that are good at it can do some really crazy *poop*.

That's good though, isn't it? We wouldn't want to let Heavies hold all the cards as far as killing goes.

As a Medium/Light, though I'm still interested as to if being Medium has any perks of its own or if it's literally just halfway between.

Back on-topic, I think that would work great, obliviondoll.

Afaik the first hit knocks you down, the second one incapacitates you, the third kills you.

When you are just knocked down, you can still shoot with your primary weapon if I'm not mistaken. So if someone is trying to keep me on my back, they will get a face full of minigun bullets.

Source? I thought you would just use your secondary like downed fire.

There are two forms of downed.

Downed as knocked prone by a gunbutt or grenade explosion. From this position you can get up or shoot.

Incappped is when you have lost all your health and must join the respawn wave or wait for a medic. You can shoot if you have downed fire, but it will lower your health while you are incapped.

yeah i think they have melee pretty much under control

if someone sneaks up behind you or manages to parkour their way in close then they kinda deserve to bash u to death to save giving away their position with firing

just like if u shotty blast a ninja out of the air then walk up and kiss him with your gun butt u deserve that too

where games fail is when 2 ppl come upon eachother and its whoever mashes a single button first which is usually the person with the better ping

also the auto-knife animation in other games that seems to bypass bullets (and in some cases stairs and walls) is just a big easy button IMO, and i dont think Brink has that, seems like you lash out and if they are close enough u hit them, rather then warping through gunfire to stab them in the neck

Only thing id say is if your are downed (not incapacited just KD) maybe you should have the option to lash out with your own knife/gun
