Playing around with the Geck again

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 3:39 pm

Was bored today and didn't feel like working on my Oblivion mod so played around a bit in the GECK. Not really a mod right now, but who knows in the future. It does have sort of an idea behind it though. The US government made an attempt to build a spaceship, but for vague reasons this ship was never used apparently. Well I'd like to think that there were many who disagreed with the plans of the pre-war Enclave, rebelled and used the incoming and outgoing nukes as cover to shoot themselves into space. Obviously fitted with the best pre-war technology that's reasonably compareable to what the post-war Enclave have, pretty neat stuff basically.

Also did some basic retextures to give it a bit more of a pre-war USA4Ever feel.

Before anybody brings up politics, USSA stands for United States Space Administration, Fallout's equilivant for NASA. Not related to politics in any way. I'd rather not have a discussion start about this.

Off to bed, I'm wasted 5:04am :/

EDIT: Disclaimer: The work as shown in the screenshots is not endorsed/supported/loved/hated/ridiculized/sponsored/etc. by the U.S. Government (Since I'm using the US's national seal in my retexes...)

* All interiors will have light switches to toggle the lights. I think most will also have a switch to initiate the emergency phase when crap hits the fan.

Planning a quest for it?

At this moment I'd say no, but never say never. What I would want to have for an end result would be extremely time consuming. I doubt you'd find anybody who would dedicate their time to something like that. So I'm not really giving the quest aspect much attention as I don't think it is even remotely feasible within a reasonable timeframe.

Right now I'm just building the interiors to my taste. As you may have seen in the screenshots I've also did some basic retexturing. I've also created very primitive light switch and emergency phase scripts, but I'm probably going to remove them as they don't really work all that well.

Perhaps it does have a bit of potential, I don't consider my scenario entirely unrealistic. Should this become a serious project one way or another here's the scenario I'd have in mind:

Before the Great War began, the U.S. government had plans to create a space ship at the U.S.S.A's Bloomfield Space Center. Before the bombs fell the U.S. Government became increasingly divided over the new problems and issues they were forced to face. Eventually there was a group who strongly disagreed with whatever it was the Enclave had planned. The increasing nuclear thread made this group realize that they could soon face a cluster of atomic bombs dropping on U.S. soil so they decided to pack their stuff and move to the Bloomfield Space Center. When the bombs finally dropped, this group along with other people used the situation to their advantage to escape in this space ship. It was a success. The space ship entered space without any issues and with the technology on-board and plenty of long-term life-sustaining systems on-board they became the luckiest survivors of the apocalypse (My vision of the ship is rather different than what the folks form Black Isle had in mind - not just a simple ferry, but a real fully featured space ship).

That would be the basic story.

Their main goals:
1. Restore the United States of America to their former glory (this includes rebuilding the entire U.S. starting with the capital, Washington DC)
2. Acquire a version of the Forced Evolutionary Virus (F.E.V.) and enhance it (Create an FEV strain that doesn't obliterate the entire Wasteland - Enclave strain - or creates any mutants - Mariposa, Vault 87, Vault-Tec strains)
3. Acquire a functional Garden of Eden Creation Kit (G.E.C.K.) and enhance it (Modify the G.E.C.K. or create a G.E.C.K. from scratch to rebuild the United States - In this case a G.E.C.K. is built from scratch based on the old G.E.C.K., G.E.C.K. 2)
4. The preservation of pre-war technology, literature, music etc.

It's not really well thought out, but this would be the basic idea.

May I ask you why you asked me wether ot not I was planning to create a quest for it?

Well, it looks very interesting- all the large banks of terminals make it seem like it should be bustling with NPCs doing things.

Well assuming that each one of these server units have nearly no processing power (compared to our modern day alternatives), the only real form of storage are tape drivers or drum memory... We're going to need a lot of them if we want to have a reliable weapon's targetting system, navigational systems, databases etc. Imagine having to keep all the pre-war world's information on old vacuum tube based computers with drum memory or tapes as storage. That's the reason why there are so many servers and a few scattered mainframes here and there. And of course... in the end there should be quite a few NPCs. Old vacuum tube based servers aren't exactly super reliable and need a lot of monitoring. :P That's the basic idea behind it all.

I've been doing some work again on this little project. The lab has had some very good improvements (if I say so myself). I also created two bathrooms, a small clinic (only suitable for minor operations) and the foundation for an armory, but haven't started on that one yet.

Having a bit of troubles creating a practical and believeable layout for the ship though, it's not easy for everything to keep making sense. So far the "Middle Deck" has the Lab, the Lab's Server room, the small clinic, two bathrooms (One for each six) and an armory.

Well here are some new screenshots of the finished lab and some other minor stuff:
