GTS, why is it so amazing

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:21 pm

ok, first and foremost, i dont want to bash anyone's feelings or work

why is GTS so special, because i tried it, and there is nothing really special about it, is it just a modders resource that i have no need for, or is there somthing more to it
i only went to a few locations, but there is only a few houses or encounters. am i doing somthing wrong
:ahhh:

think of it as the library card you will use to access all future location related mods, and a great one at that. But since creating a new region is tough, no one has done it yet. Still I'm rooting for this mod to inspire people.

It's a collection of well designed new landscapes for people to put their cities in.

Basically it adds vehicles that you can use for quick travel from point a to point b and keep stuff in the trunk. You can also use these vehicles to access some challenging random encounters.

Somewhere there is a boat house. This place is nicely stocked and has some customizaiton options.

Lastly if you hop on a boat you can travel to another location, such as a beach in india or an african trading port or whatnot. These places feel far from finished but still are really cool.

So basically it is a really well done seed for bigger and greater things.

GTS is great because it allows for more of the world to be built and allowing you to use a unified system of vehicles to get there. So you don't have car to get to A and a different car to get to B, you can get to either place with either car using GTS.

[spoiler]Fast travel to the washington monument (i.e. water purification place) and swim across the river. This is assuming you already have the keys... if not jump on the bike (arlington school) or car (junkyard) and travel to the cave at the edge of town.
Oh yeah, spoilers.

- GTS is compatible with every mod you could imagine, as it is clearly descriped in the FAQ and readme as well.

- I don't feel, that there are much people, that think "GTS is amazing", so to speak. In my opinion it's still much better than a crapload of mods listed in the top 100 of nexus.

- There are already 2 mods released for GTS (GTS Island and GTS Claw Peak).

- If someone can't find the Warehouse, it's proberbly because he can't read descriptions.

- There are a lot instructions and descriptions including pictures available, so even the dumbest should be able to use it.

At all, there is surely more to do in this mod, than in most others, with the random encounters alone you can spend a couple of hours. If there were less morons playing fallout3, I would proberbly already have fully developed the locations.

Yeah! Good locations, cities, settlements, camps, ruins, secret underground bases, islands, continents, even the whole earth! Am I too greedy? Maybe some amazing quests?

Those above all can be in one game, under GTS, without any position conflict, I think GTS can be better than anything.

With MMM and FWE, those enemy from random encounters can seriously kick my ass... last time I've met three deathclaws and bunch of talon mercs in an encounter at level 3. Guess what's my strategy? :bolt:

From what I've understood GTS itself is just a nice platform that other mods can use, by itself there's not much to it. It would need more modders using it to make it amazing, and I don't think anyone currently is.

It's cool that it adds the ability to travel to new places, but if nobody mods these new places I don't see the point. :P

I 'm totally no modder, but I think there are already some towns/cities mod, so it might not be very difficult to implant them into GTS?

Or just RTS them yourself? You know, build new human city from threats of all kinds of monsters?

I agree, most of the worlds don't have much to do in it. But at least there are 65 unique random encounters, that will never stop challange even skilled characters and there is a hugh player home with a lot of details and surely not much worser than other player homes and you can switch between different vehicles, use them as storage on travel, you could use those many features for your companions, you could use the trading hub to sell your stuff and so on.

It's by far not, that there are only a few empty worlds in it. Many of those features took a lot of work and it's not fair, how regulary I have to read, that GTS is nothing but a resource. Other mods only add a single weather theme, like fellout and get tousends of endorsemants for it. Nobody complains there. Like, why is fellout so amazing, it only adds a weathertype. Or all those other mods, that adds a single armor or weapon. What's so amazing about them? They only add a weapon. Why not everyone open the GECK and just start something similar like GTS. Maybe then he notice, that creating worlds isn't done in a minute and proberbly deserves a little more respect.

Just to mention, GTS has roughly more new worldspaces in it, than the entire fallout community was able to pull off in 2 years and instead of moaning, someone could just finish develope the GTS cities with some NPCs or Quests. The locations are all pretty far developed, it wouldn't be that magic to add some more content there and it could be done in a couple of weeks. It's free for anyone to do so and it's surely more worthy than releasing armor and weapon mod nr. 5200.

If this community would be better in actually doing something instead of complaining, maybe more people would already understand the purpose of GTS. It was made in mind with all the problems the Oblivion-Community had in matter of missing space for all those city and location mods. So I made GTS to give the Fallout3 Community a chance to do it better. But to name the facts, the fallout3 community is just a hugh disappointement compared to the great quest and world mods that were released for Oblivion and therefore GTS did fail so to speak. But that's not the fault of GTS.

I doubt it's a case of scale. Fellout may just be one weathertype, but it's a very well done weathertype - I prize quality well above quantity in such things. Same with clothing mods, the actual quantity of stuff you're getting is small, but if they're good clothes then the mod deserves to be commended for that. While I haven't tried GTS (Mostly due to not really knowing what it does, and little interest in expanding the world to improbable locations), it just seems arrogant to say that entire swathes of mods are worthless because they don't add the sheer quantity of stuff that other mods do.

You don't get my point. I am not saying other mods being worthless, but I am saying it's not fair how gts is treated frequently compared to other mods. That's not the first topic by the way, where someone needs to tell the world how much he dislike gts and it's one of the reasons why the comments on nexus disabled.

Ah, I misunderstood. Then it may well be that GTS promises so much, and while it also achieves a lot, bringing somebody a bar of gold when you promised them a continent can be underwhelming. But as I've said, I've never tried the mod.

Well, that's proberbly the reason. But it's hard to mod the world as a single person.
Well, I already stopped gts long ago and for my current project I have learned the lesson not to release anything before it is completely polished.
