Can't Loot - must be a conflict or bug

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:50 pm

I finally got all my mods loaded and sorted, start a new game, and... I can't loot anything! Just at the start of the tutoral, so I'm trying to loot the rats, Captain Renault and the mythic dawn. The inventory pops up but won't stay open.

Here's my mod order:

Does anybody have any ideas? BOSS placed Storms and Sound near the top, but SM said that Storms and Sounds has to load later than Supreme Magicka, although I doubt that's an issue here. I am using Darnified UI. I followed the instructions for installing in those cases where the mods conflict with Darnified (Advanced Alchemy for one).

There are a number of things in that list that should not be active. Deactivate all green-text, purple-text and italicized text plugins. (You may want to rebuild your bashed patch as well.) Leave S&S where BOSS placed it. Check conflicts with your UI mods (i.e., TQP, super hotkeys.) Doesn't TQP have a menu that can be installed. You do not need to install that if you use DarN UI. Reinstall your UI mod.

Edit: Do not regenerate your INI. Just try reinstalling your UI mod.

Edit: You have to reinstall OblivionXP after installing Darnified UI. It has menus specifically for Darnified UI.

Edit: You need to reinstall Enhanced Economy after installing Darnified UI as well. Its menus should not be overwritten.

I don't understand some of your comments. Yes TQP has a menu and I can access it. I followed your suggested installation order, so I installed Darn UI, Keychain, Super Hotkeys, TQP, then Enhanced Economy and Oblivion XP - in that order. Oblvion XP says it's unlikely to have conflicts because it is script based and I'm inclined to agree. I did try disabling it and it made no difference.

TQP says it's compatible with Darn UI. I have used Darn UI for years and it does not offer anything in regards to bypassing the quantity prompts. I have also used Improved Hotkeys in the past and decided to give Super Hotkeys a try.

It's really weird because I can loot the first item (rat, bad guy or whatever), it's just when I try to do the second that I have the issue. I can open my inventory screen ok - it's just looting that's not working. Maybe I should disable TQP or Keychain...

If you installed in that order, then the problem I was thinking of is unlikely. However, are you sure Oblivion XP's Darn UI menus are installed. Does the OMOD version do that automatically? I do not use either, so I would not know.

Edit: Oblivion XP does overlap with UI mods. It has its own menu files... I have the extracted archive in a folder on my desktop.

Edit: TQP should be fine since you are using Darnified UI. The Keychain mod does not even need an extra menu file. All you need for that is OBSE. Do you have Pluggy installed?

Yes I have Pluggy. Oblivion XP is fine. It's extra progress bars show up fine in Darn. When you install with OMOD, a script runs asking you what your config is. You know, I seem to vaguely recall this problem before... It might be MD saddlebags... I really don't remember - will have to do more testing I guess...

Found it!!! It was Keychain - you evil little so and so....

Thanks for the thoughts. I can live without Keychain. If you can think of where I should load it, or if re-installing might help, I'll give that a try, but for now, I have a working game. Even with all my extra mods that could be merged into a bashed patch... :) I've been running these this way for years and you know what they say about old dogs... Note to others: if you are running lots of mods(150 - 200 +), then importing and merging are a good idea, but if you are like me, (less than 100), it really isn't necessary if they are not conflicting.

If Keychain is not working, you need to make sure you have the latest version of OBSE. That is all that that mod requires. Maybe a clean save will do the trick for you. Try it again.

That last bit of advice is not true. It depends on what type of mods you are running. I missed the "old dogs" comment... Anyhow, check your OBSE installation. Keychain should not have any conflicts. BOSS puts it in the right place. People running 300+ mods and Darnified UI use that mod...

Edit: Keychain ReadMe excerpts:
[quote]
=== Requirements
* [[http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm | Oblivion v1.2.0416]]
* [[http://obse.silverlock.org/ | OBSE v0017a or later]]

. 3. Does this work with DarN's UI?
+ YES! Ignore the "slowdown" warning - it was for Keychain v2.1. With v5.0, you will see a decrease in menu load times, even if your Key category is collapsed.
+ Use the Keychain to "collapse" and "uncollapse" your keys, instead of the Key header. Note that the Key category will no longer be collapsed by default.

"You can't teach old dogs new tricks" Telling people that they HAVE to merge and import mods isn't true either. Last time I ran Bash (a few years ago) it didn't have all these features - I prefer to stick to what I know. I'm running OBSE 18. Clearly you think I'm a friggin idiot - I'll leave you to it.

I do not think that. I did no know you were running OBSE v18. I am trying to figure out what your problem is. It seems odd that Keychain is not working when it should be compatible with your setup. Did you try it again?

Edit: I cannot have instructions that pertain to every peculiar setup. What I have on that site are guidelines that seem to work the majority of the time. If I thought that of you, I would not have tried to help you here. I did not use the words "have to" in my last post, nor did I tell you to redo your bashed patch. Plus, that should have nothing to do with the Keychain mod working or not working.

As a side note, TQP hasn't needed any xml menus to be installed/edited since v2.2, and completely removed that option in v3.0.0. If you still have them in your install, Tomlong, you don't need it.

I do not. I thought that that was the case, but as I do not have an Oblivion setup in front of me and I have not had to worry about TQP in over a year, I could not be sure. I was just mentioning the UI mods that stood out to me.

Edit: I am extremely exhausted, and this whole discourse has been somewhat of a pain. I think I need to retire for the night... Maybe someone else can help, if the OP is willing.

Edit: I did not realize that was your mod Warrudar. Thank you very much. I have been using that mod for quite a while. It is definitely an essentially in my load list.
