There is spell failure

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:06 am

I haven't seen any threads discussing this, but look at http://www.gameinformer.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-ImageFileViewer/CommunityServer-Components-SiteFiles-imagefeed-featured-bethesda-elderscrolls-elderscrollsv/SkillsMenu.jpg_2D00_610x0.jpg

It says 'Destruction skill makes it easier to cast spells like Fireball, Ice Spike, and Lightning Bolt' meaning there's a chance that you won't successfully cast it. Thoughts?

They could just mean be able to cast higher level spells or being able to cast lower level spells at a lower magicka cost, I wouldn't read too much into it.

I don't think it necessarily means that. Could just as easily be interpreted as less mana required or more powerful. If you start reading that deep into everything I guarantee you are going to set yourself up for disappointment when what you imagined in the game is confirmed not. Sorry for the buzz kill.

What else could "makes it easier" mean? Less manna drain, time to cast, and chance of failure. Hopefully all.

Fixed, Sorry, couldn't resist.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Oblivion manual have descriptions with almost the exact same wording? It could mean anything from spell failure to less magicka required to cast, as the others in this thread have stated. Don't read too much into it.

More powerful variant of spell?
Faster Projectiles?
Less Magicka Cost?

I certainly hope it doesn't mean spells can fail again. It was the most frustrating thing in Morrowind. Not only would it be rough to switch between melee and spell stance in the middle of a fight, but then failing to cast a restoration spell too? I'm dead. Daaaaamn.

Hopefully it means what the rest of you have been saying. Less magicka cost, things like that.

Yeah, I'm guessing this is referring to magicka cost.

One of many things I hated about Morrowind. Hope the OP has got this wrong.

make it easier doesn't mean fail. It could mean you cast faster or use less magika, or you have better access to spells

In that context, I don't think "easier" implies anything one way or another, besides what was already obvious: a higher Destruction skill makes a character more proficient at casting spells of the Destruction school.

Personally, I'd have written the skill descriptions differently, though. Bethesda, get some writers over in the programming department!

nevermind, I was mis-understood [Fearless's] phrasing.

I'd like to think its spell failure.

Sleign, you used the problem word in your description. That doesn't really mean anything.

It's not what it seems, it's just an explanation of what the destruction skill gives you, which basically means that the higher you get the destruction spell the easier it will be to cast the higher level spells.
