FWE problem

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:12 pm

I recently installed Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition, which is the first and only mod i've played.
The problem is that there are alot of textures missing, mostly the weapons and armors that are added with the mod. They look very strange, almost silver. Also some guys wear helmets made of stone.
I have the Steam version of Fallout 3, and have Vista. I don't know anything about modding and computers, so please talk to me like i'm a 4 year old

There seem to be problems with the older FWE FOMOD script + the newer versions of FOMM. Did you install using the package manager in FOMM or did you manually install? If you used the fomod approach, when did you download the install files?

In anycase, manually extracting the files should work. Don't forget to toggle archive invalidation in FOMM.

I can't comment on the steam version . . . does it have problems with UAC like with FO3 when installed to the program files directory?

I used the package manager in FOMM, because i read it was highly recommended, and i downloaded the files today and installed them when they finished.
I did do the Archive Invalidation thingie.. i don't know what it does, but i think i did it.
I never had any problems with Steam.

Thanks for your fast reply.

I had a problem like this except my meshes were missing, install it manually over the FOMOD install.

No, like Mez said only the old FOMOD install had an issue with that, the new one works fine. You shouldnt copy the files manually over the fomod install.

@OP:
Make sure you dont have Steam/Fallout3 installed in C:\Program Files

Are you sure? When I was installing FWE I tried installing through the FOMOD but it didn't work, so I uninstalled through FOMM and re-installed manually, then it worked.

When was the last time you downloaded FWE? I fixed the installer only a little while ago.

Some time this month, although I don't think FWE was the only FOMOD installation that gave me problems, although I can't specifically remember anything else.

I just prefer manual installs anyway :)

MMM and FWE both had that problem(since both used the same install scripts that didnt work anymore with the new FOMM version).
FWE's was fixed at the beginning of this month, so not sure if you got the old or the new version then.

I think the problem is the Invalidation option in FOMM. When i want to activate FWE, i get the message i have to press the Invalidation button, although i believe i've allready done that. When i choose abort installation and Invalidate, i get an error that says that it can't acces fallout.ini, and more stuff. Fallout 3 is now reinstalling, will post the whole error when finished.

If you get that error then you didnt have archive invlidation activated properly.

You do.
But if you get an error message that it cant access your fallout.ini that is a problem, because invalidation cant be properly applied in that case.

Is the invalidation problem a result of FO3 being installed in program files and trying to access a user file outside the directory? I mean, that's kinda how a security threat 'might' operate, so maybe Windows UAC is freakin' out?

The whole error, hope it helps:

A problem occurred during install:
Exception of type 'fomm.transactions.rollbackexception' was thrown .chinhdo.transactions.txfilemanager.+txenlistment Failed to roll back.
Acces to the path 'C:\Users\chris\Desktop\documents\my games\fallout3\fallout.ini' is denied
The mod was not installed.

I doubt it is UAC causing this, because i have it turned off.

You did run the game without any mods and use the FalloutLauncher.exe to choose your settings, right? You have to do that before you do any modding.

Ok, have you tried to open the folder /path/to/Fallout 3/fomm. Rightclick fomm.exe, chose "Run as administrator" and try again?

I used Archive Invalidation Invalidated, and i didn't get any errors, but the Talon Company mercs for example are still very strange looking, with armor made of stone, and blinking silver weapons.
I also tried installing FWE manually, which didn't work either.
Could the problem be i have Fallout 3 installed in C:\Program Files, although i have UAC turned off ?

"Where is FOMM installed?" could be the question.
I have FOMM installed in a subfolder called FOMM in the folder where Fallout is installed.

The only glitches I encountered were from the Fomod script he mentioned earlier in the thread, missing textures and meshes, hopefully fixed in this new version.
