FO3 LIVE - Why oh why oh why?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:33 am

Just reading through this http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3813

and the changes to hidden folders in windows etc in the description....

If this is so problematic (as the author says "The timing of the AddAchievements relative to crashes I've experienced (and seen others write about) led me to believe that the achievements were part of the crashes. As my first time through the DLC was extremely rough before doing this and now it's smooth sailing, I think I might be onto something rather than just on something. All edited scripts have been recompiled minus the achievements and seem to be working like a charm.since disabling live a lot fewer crashes have been experienced")

Why has there been no official patch to the problem?.

Its a single player game, not everyone wants to add more background services/crap to their machine setup (and the seemingly obvious complications it has caused)

Is there really no cleaner/official way to remove Live from the installation?

Edit: If there was a GOTY version sans Live I would buy it again..... and ditch this one in the bin.

There's a fake Windows Live DLL option in Fallout Mod Manager.

And a standalone mod on FO3Nexus to disable GFWL.

You can also just skip signing in to it, I think.

I'd imagine it's only a problem for people who feel they have to be on GFWL for some reason.

Now looking at http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1086, I believe this is the standalone one to remove.

But I think the one I linked could also be useful, in that it removes the live bloat scripts from the game (at the end of the description the author has linked the standalone by Qarn with a see also note)

And, I think the only problem I can see with the standalone by Qarn probably stems from people having installed via steam, so when they use the 'Move DLCs' option it would obviously relocate files to a folder their game would not know about... which in my case (GOTY DVD installation) would not need to be done?

If you bought the DLCs on GFWL, but bought the main game from Steam that might be an issue. I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure you could still move them manually, though.

If you bought the Steam GOTY, or the individual DLCs from Steam it shouldn't be an issue because all the files are installed in the regular Steam game directory I think.

Or just run FOSE and it by nature stops GFWL from running.

Beth hasnt patched it because they are 1. Done with Fallout for good. and 2. Have another game in the works, which will more then likely address 60%+ of the issues Fallout 3 has had.

Why are you posting a thread complaining about Live to the mods forum several years after release? Surely you can't have the delusion that they're actually going to do something about it now?

 Good point, should have posted elsewhere, and no, I dont believe anything would be done about it officially now, just hope its noted for future games really. And the second reason was to pick everyones experienced mod searching in case theres anything I have not found yet (I dont tend to venture to other parts of the forum), theres always more ways to skin a cat and the collective inventiveness of the community usually finds them all. I could have worded the OP a bit better though.

Edit: Thanks Echonite, I do run FOSE and did not know it had that effect.

Yes, you can copy the DLC ESM files from the GFWL directory over to the Steam directory and everything works fine (once you enable things in FOMM). That's what I had to do last year... I only signed in to GFWL long enough to buy the DLCs and get my copy.

Yup. I thought it was a bug when I first noticed it and reported it, but was later told it was normal.

Well, let's hope the crashes on achievements don't affect New Vegas. But hey - I'd take Steamworks over GFWL any and every day. Hopefully, Bethesda follows Obsidian's lead when it comes to release TES V and Fallout 4. :shifty:

How about no GFWL or Steamworks period?

That saved my ass, 3 hours of downloading live, and running a dodgy program during my gaming, all not a problem thanks to FMM! ^_^
