Custom Textures Scrambled in-game

(RESOLVED by Tubal, 2nd post)

I've recently started playing again after about half a year of down time, so I'm experimenting with G.E.C.K. again, but I'm having some trouble with textures displaying correctly in-game. I've never had this issue in the past, so I'm guessing it's some combination of the new add-ons or a more recent patch causing the problem, but have been unable to pin point which exactly. After searching the forums for a solution and coming up empty-handed, I concede to the fact that I'm beaten, so I'll ask for help!

Any texture that isn't originally included in the .bsa files appear correctly in G.E.C.K. and NifSkope, but become scrambled in-game--the textures shift and change as I approach or circle the object. This includes every texture I've personally changed, and those downloaded from other modders. I'm using a Digital Copy of the original game, as I always have, but now I've gotten all the DLC from Games for Windows Live as well. I've pretty much eliminated drivers or hardware as the problem, since I've ran the game on 2 separate machines: One a Pentium with an Nvidia card running 32-bit XP with directX 9c, and the second, an AMD with an ATI card running 64-bit Windows 7 with directX 10, each with updated drivers.

If anyone's had the same experience or knows of a solution, I'd sure appreciate the help!

I don't know how you searched, but this is the most common problem reported by a wide margin.

Most likely you don't have archive invalidation activated. Either get the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944, or use http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640. (I recommend the latter)

I had a similar problem, but I didn't really look into the problem and just used a vanilla texture. The difference for me was that it only affected a model I personally modified to include an external texture; the original models downloaded from other modders were still fine. It doesn't sound like a lack of archive invalidation to me; I thought that was for file overrides? Not original textures.

From looking at the NIFs, it appears that Fallout handles texturing somewhat differently than Oblivion, with multiple texture layers being included in the NIF itself.

I'd check the NIF carefully to make sure all mentions of the textures have been updated properly.

Nope, all custom textures and meshes need Archive Invalidation: Invalidated, or they show up as either a flickering texture for textures, or as a missing mesh(red diamond with a exclamation mark in it).

But AI:I comes bundled with FOMM, and the stand alone is rather easy to use anyway(press one button to turn it on, and the other for turning it off, which can only be pressed when it's on).

Do the textures not show up properly on a mesh that was altered? Or are unaltered meshes not working either? Texture set overrides don't like it when you alter a mesh, you have to take special precautions in NIFSkope to prevent that from happening. Sometimes, it's unavoidable and you have to redo the texture set overrides on the mesh in the GECK.

Thanks, everyone, for the quick replies! The problem was most definitely the archive invalidation. Oddly enough, though, I don't recall having to do this before. As far as not being able to find a post about this common problem, I'm guessing it'd because I was searching for the wrong thing. Since there's no error message involved, I had to go with my best description and came up with other texture issues that didn't match my problem. If I had looked for "Invalid" textures, maybe, I would have had more luck, but obviously, I hadn't even considered it! In any case, thanks again - archive invalidation.
