The Plague

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:07 am

The Lady's Grace wasn't the only ship from Black Marsh coming into the port of Anvil today. In fact, there were more on their way right now, bringing shipments of Black Marsh's indigenous plants for the Mage's Guild. But that wasn't all they brought.

Below deck, in the hot, damp cargo hold, rats scurried around. They were wilder than usual today. They even scared off the last crewman to come below deck. Of course, no one else would dare to venture into the cargo hold that day. No one except the captain.

The captain went down below deck. He couldn't see what all the fuss was about. He couldn't hear or see anything that could possibly scare off a hardened sailor. He neared an open crate, and looked inside. What he saw didn't scare him at all. It was just a pile of dead, rotting rats. He left the cargo hold, but he left with more than he had brought with him. Latched onto his lower leg was a single, tiny tick.

But the tick wasn't hungry yet. Oh, no, he would wait until he was ready to eat. As the captain returned to the deck, the tick detached from its previous host, left the ship from a small ramp, and crawled into the city of Anvil.

This is an RP about a mysterious plague from Black Marsh, and it all starts with the tick mentioned above. I only have a few simple rules.

1. No Ubering/Character controlling
2. PM me your char sheets for approval (Char sheet format mentioned below)
3. My word is law, and what I say always goes. Repeated violations of any of these rules will cause me to kill off your character.
4. No immunity to disease; you are just a susceptible to the plague as anyone else. (Note to Wood Elf Characters: don't try to use your innate disease resistance as an excuse to break this rule. All characters are allowed to use resist disease potions on occasion.)
5. No one-liners.
6. Have Fun!

More about the disease itself:

No one has ever encountered a disease such as this. It has no known cure, and spreads as quickly as it kills.

Methods of transmission include:

1. Exchange of bodily fluids (Similar to mono; even the slightest exchange of saliva, ie. eating from the same bowl of nuts, sneezing on someone, will spread the disease)
2. Being bitten by an infected tick, like the one mentioned above. Ticks other than the one already mentioned will become infected by biting an infected person.

Symptoms are as follows

Early symptoms:
1. Light to excessive coughing
2. drowsiness
3. occasional light-headedness

Intermediate symptoms:
1. Uncontrollable coughing
2. Vomiting
3. Fever
4. Slight discoloration of the iris and skin (light purple blotches)

Advanced Symptoms
1. Excessive Vomiting, sometimes containting blood
2. Coughing blood
3. More visible discoloration of the iris and skin (light to dark purple blotches)

Your characters must try to survive the plague, and coping with other hazards such as looters, paranoid guards, etc. You start in Anvil, and may leave the city when things get too bad. The plague, however, will inevitably spread throughout Cyrodiil.

Sounds interesting! :)

A few questions, though...

Can you die from it? If rats die, that doesn't inherrantly mean that the human races will, even when they catch it, so is it deadly?

Also, what's the storyline? Or is it sort of a free-form roleplay, where you're given this situation and are let loose to run around meet the other people if you want?

Oh, and can you be a sort of alchemical genius and strive to find a cure or at least type of medicine/potion or spell to relieve the more troublesome symptoms? Or some other role like that, which is more closely related to the plague itself, rather than just being a struggling survivor, victim or carrier... :P

But I do like it, it sounds good! :goodjob:

Oh, yes, you can die from it, quite easily. If you die, it' most likely be from a really high fever, or dehydration from all the vomiting you'll be doing.

There's not really a storyline per se, the characters, as you said, wil be given this situation, and let loose. Everyone starts in or around Anvil, where the plague begins to spread

Oh and sure, you could be and alchemical genius trying to find a cure. Just keep in mind that the other roleplayers might not want to do that, so you might be working alone.

Gotcha - no ending the rp by finding a cure ;)
...but I can still search for it, even if there's nothing to be found.... :read:

Ooh! character sheet time! :twirl:
Better start thinking!

Maybe, when the death of the Captain is reported, other people start dying and Anvil is closed to prevent the disease from spreading (but ticks can cross the wall), Anvil citizens stay in house with all Windows and doors closed, Mages Guild try to find a cure (they know the cause), beggars start to kill people to get safety, food starts to run out... And inside the dead rats here are some eggs. Maybe, since it comes from the Black Marsh, Argonians may know something so the disease is slower, but it evolves and each time is faster. Also, so the disease may spread more easily, the disease will make the infected get to an organism really quickly. The disease maybe will have a different effect depending on race, animal or from who you contracted it. The disease will also infect plants (when you sneeze in them or eat them) but not the potion. This are only suggestions for the Intro and disease, to make things more interesting...

EDIT : My Character :

Name : Son-of-Sea
Race : Argonian
Apparent Age : 19-24
Actual Age : 22
Birthsign : Steed

Skills : He is good at sneaking, and is a Journeyman in Blade. He's starting to practice magic. He is also a very good runner and an acrobat.
Weapons : He carries a silver dagger.
Armor : He has an enchanted hood (fortify Speed) and a Leather Armor.
Misc. Items : He carries some health potions, food, interesting books (he likes to read) and useless things he wants to sell (Crystall Balls, forks, urns...)

Short Bio. : Son-of-Sea was born in the Black Marsh, he was trained as a Shadow Scale Assasin but at the age of 13 he escaped to Cyrodiil, because he didn't wanted to be a killer. He arrived at the Imperial City by boat. He quikly found a job, he cleaned peoples house for some money. When he got to 15, he started to train his blade skills in 'A Fighting Chance', and got a new job : Cleaning the sewers from Goblins and rats. He could sell what he found. When he was 22, he decided to move to Anvil, so he could be near the sea, not knowing what would happen to him....

Mental Profile : He is sane. Though the experience he had with the SSA made him distrust people.
Physical Description : He is kind-of strong, he has big fins, and is Greenish color.

Misc. Facts : He likes to read, he wants to learn magic, he prefers the safest actions.

When shall we start?

Shouldn't argonians be immune as they are resistant to disease... or is that another race?

OOC: I suppose we should start now, though I'd rather have a few more RPers. I'll start a new thread.

My char, then I'll start the RPing thread and people can join that from PM.

Name: Fanier
Race: Wood Elf/High Elf mix
Gender: Male
Apparent Age: 28
Actual Age: 65
Birthsign: The Lord

Skills: Fanier is a master at close-quarters combat, which includes short blade and hand-to-hand skills. He's also fair with a bow. He knows alot about alchemy and medicine, and can cast basic restoration and fire spells when necessary.
Weapons: Just an elven shortsword
Armor: He just wears plain linen, etc.
Misc. Items: Fanier always wears his late wife's amulet.

Short Bio:Son of a nobleman in summerset isle, left his family as he grew tired of the noble life. Traveled across Tamriel, and met a beautiful wood elf name Lathora in Cyrodiil. They traveled together, and were married in the Temple of the One. A year later, during a visit to Morrowind, Lathora came infected with Corprus, and eventually became a full fledged corprus beast. Fanier, devastated, took her amulet and left Morrowind. He became a privateer for well-paying customers, sometimes easy jobs like pest-extermination (rats), sometimes doing the dirty work for skooma dealers. Although he sometimes murdered, he never did so unless his employers told him what they did to deserve such a fate. Fanier never told anyone of his wife.

Mental Profile: Charming man, though has a bit of somberness behind the charm from the death of his wife fifteen years ago. When forced to talk about his wife, he becomes irritable, sometimes breaks down. Always carries her amulet to remember her by. He doesn't like it when people try to feel sorry for him. He isn't bothered by blood, gore, etc

Physical Description: 6 feet, 2 inches, due to high elf ancestry. 160 pounds, little body fat, average muscle mass. Brown hair, often tied in a short ponytail or let loose in a short, ruffled fashion. Hazel eyes, some stubble around chin and upper lip.
