Oy I got a headeache

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:51 pm

It's been such a long time since I had once used mods for oblivion that I can no longer remember what to do, where to go and how to even get start(Albeit I have started attempting to build up the bare minimums) . I have attempted to look up guides but alas even then I am a hopeless mudcrab, basically I just want to see what everyone is going to recommend.

If anyone could just suggest guides on where to start, mods that they personally recommend and lists of recommend mods and such; then I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Thanks if anyone does reply, sorry for my noobish actions; it won't happen again hopefully.

To start, you can check out the site linked in my sig. Many of the recommended mod lists and guides are on the "Downloading Mods" page (step #4).

Edit: If you have any questions or feedback about the site, please post in the site's thread (also linked in my sig.)

Thanks for all the links guys, but mind if I ask another question?

I've been having a problem with OBSE in which when I launch the executable, a command prompt appears and then disappears with no explanation as to why; nothing is under processes when this occurs and yet oblivion can launch normally.

That's normal, It does that.
Edit:Do you mean that OBSE doesn't work in-game?

That behaviour is normal. Did you follow the instructions for the OBSE installation?

Well when launching the executable, Oblivion does not launch along with it.

Edit:

After attempting to run oblivion normally, it seems it won't start up even then; it seems to be a problem with normal oblivion rather than OBSE; should I reinstall?

Are you on the STEAM version or CD version?

Are you on the STEAM version or CD version?

Retail version, I was able to play earlier on this computer; I don't know what caused it to be like this but I guess I might have to do a full reinstall.

Here is a shortened version of a dxdiag

Manufacturer:
System manufacturer
Processor:
AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory:
4096MB RAM
Hard Drive:
640 GB
Video Card:
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Operating System:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909)

Yet I was able to play before, so I don't believe it is a hardware issue.

Edit:

The tools I have installed so far are OBMM, Wrye bash, OBSE and some plugins for it (Possibly the issue, any recommend course of action?)

Try installing OBSE again (make sure its the latest version) and then run obse_launcher.exe.

Tried it, it refuses to start up oblivion.

Even when doing the original executable, it refuses to start up.

Do you guys recommend I reinstall?

Yes. Did you install outside of the default folder?

If you have installed outside of the default folder, patched your game to the latest version and are sure the UAC is not interfering, follow Tejon's advice - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/troubleshooting/postlo

Reinstalling seemed to have fixed it, don't know what caused the issue though.

Thanks for all the help, will continue to mod oblivion.

Mind if I ask any more questions if I run into many issues?

If not, is there anywhere else where I could.

I am such a nub. :(

Mind if I ask everyone's opinion?

Would you guys recommend I install FCOM, OOO or one of those overhauls I hear so much about?

Last time I installed mods for oblivion I never tried them, I probably should have.

What do you guys recommend?

I love OOO and FCOM, but installing them is no joke. I recommend starting out with FCOM. OOO is its core. Upgrade to FCOM once you are comfortable using mods.

Oh? So I should install OOO first and then upgrade or is it already included in FCOM and just go ahead with that?

It is included with FCOM, but FCOM will take at least an entire day for you to install and test. You can try my guide, but you have to be willing to read everything. Skimping out on FCOM's installation instructions is a guaranteed disaster.

*Gulp*

Should I just instead try OOO first or would it be worth it to do FCOM?

Sorry for this bit of redundancy.

The decision is entirely yours. If you read the guide, without skipping steps (or taking things to literally) you should be able to setup FCOM just fine. Do actually read the pages linked in the second paragraph of the introductory pages of any guide you chose to follow. After doing that, you will have all of the tools required to install any mod.

There is no spoon should. ;)

No, really. I recommend figuring out what it is you like and what it is you dislike about the vanilla game, and finding mods to suit. Then, ask questions about those specific mods, preferably in the threads dedicated to each.

But whatever works, of course.
