I have nothing against archery range competitions... but I don′t think Skyrim is the right setting. It would have been perfect in Oblivion but perhaps axe/hammer-throwing competitions are more Skyrim style, or feats of strength. And yes I know Nords != viking but can you honestly imagine Nords as the archers of legend ? Better save archery competitions for if we ever get a TES game that happens in Valenwood, granted bone/metal arrows may not be the thing for everyone (they don′t allow wooden arrows).

what about vikining funerals? They shot flaming arrows at the corpses as the drifted far away. I'm pretty sure that the archers would be pretty good or else the body would just drift off into the ocean unburning, and that would just be embarrassing.

What i mean to say though is that bows and arrows were pretty much a major tool of war everywhere in the world. If an army with bows and arrows went against an army with just throwing axes the army with throwing axes would most certainly lose mainly because of the much shorter range.

This sounds like a really cool idea. It would also be cool if trainers had you do something related to the skill in order to gain the new level (hit the bullseye 10 times, or something like that). Not sure how this would work in other skills though.

My idea for the archery range is one that is in a large city or right outside one. It has to be like >150 yards (for the really hard shots). When your marksman is 0-25 you can enter a novice archery competition; marksman skill of 25-50 can enter the journeyman one and so on. The winner could get a bow/(or crossbow), some enchanted arrows, or a multitude of different items.

There could even be an archery COURSE for horseback archery (granted such a thing exists in the game).

YES! Archery is the best thing ever!! Well, as long as it is a bit more challenging than in Oblivion. :gun: :violin: (look, I'm shooting the bow :hubbahubba: )

If there is an arrow spread that gets smaller as you get better, I'm all for this. If its like Oblivion where you can hit the center of anything no matter what then it would be kinda redundant. From the sound of things, holding your breath may increase accuracy(don't quote me), so it sounds like there is a spread. Thus, I voted yes. I'm all for it.

I'd like it. They already had these targets in OB, so let's put them to good use.

hell yes! they should have archery competitions in each town, with each one at different levels so as you progress you'd be going on tour so to speak.

apart from traditional downrange shooting they should also have:

shooting from horseback (mongol/japanese style)
moving targets
hit as many targets as possible in XX seconds (depends if drawtime varies between characters/bows)
targets thrown up in the air
targets amongst stuff you shouldn't hit (william tell style like others suggested)

maybe have it as part of a nord festival (like the highland games in Scotland) that include other things like hammer or axe throwing and contests of strength and endurance!
