Having some problems with a company

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:51 pm

I ordered some shirts from a website on February 27 and it's now March 13. They've been on backorder for a long time now and they won't let me cancel my order.

Here's what it says for backorders:

"All back ordered products are replenished on a regular basis. Normally, this process takes a couple of weeks. We can only be as reliable as our suppliers. Sometimes they are also out of stock on a particular item and a back order will take 6 to 8 weeks. You do not need to worry. We will send the item as soon as it arrives. If an item finally does become discontinued, you will be notified with your options.

Please do not worry if you only receive part of your order at first. For mailing purposes, many times we must ship t-shirts, posters, etc. in separate packages due to their size and weight."

I'm not going to wait weeks for my [censored] order to ship and even then I might even just receive part of it. They're not letting me cancel my order so II think I'll just be going to my bank soon and just taking my money out of the debit card.

Anybody have any problems like this before? Will taking my money out of the card work by itself or should I also cancel it so they can't charge the card when it has money on it?

If you took money out of your account then you'd likely just get charged by the bank for an overdraft fee because they still got charged and had to pay it for you. Not a good idea.

Have you tried CALLING them?

I didn't do anything before because I figured it was only something that would take a week maybe a day or two more but I sent them an e-mail. As for calling them, they're only available Monday - Friday, 10AM - 6PM EST. I'll probably call tomorrow but I still don't want to wait that long for my stuff, I'll just do what I can to get my money back and buy from a more reliable site (only reason I bought from there was because they were one of the few websites with the stuff I wanted and looked the safest).

It's not there. I already tried looking for reviews on it but couldn't find any. I'll see if I can call tomorrow and hopefully get my money.

When you go to the bank you could talk about issuing a charge-back, though I'm not really sure under what circumstances that happens.

Removing money from checking will just make your bank hit you with an overdraft fee or removing money from your savings, depending on if you linked them when you created the accounts.

For an overdraft? It depends on the bank. I know my bank is $39 for the first day and then something like $5 for every day that you don't have money in that account.

Not sure on charge backs, just talk to the people at the bank.

Trust me, you don't want to rack up overdraft fees. Their explanation sounds pretty reasonable to me, but call them if you really want to cancel

What would happen if you cancel the whole bank account before they can charge it

Seems to me that there is a 30 day limit to backorders, at which time the company must allow you to cancel the order.

However, it's poor service to not allow customers to cancel an order at any time before it's shipped, IMO. I'd call them and tell them that you are not interested in waiting. if they continue to refuse, express your disappointment in them, etc.

Then go to your bank. Tell them what is going on, ask them to refuse any request for transfer from the company, or if the bank has any ideas as to handle this. If the bank agrees (mine will do this), then call the company again and inform them that as far as you are concerned, the order in canceled and that you have instructed your bank to refuse transfer.

Note that this company might honestly be having problems with their supplier/drop-shipper, and are not trying to rip you off. However, in my book, not allowing customers to cancel orders is pretty darn poor.
